[opensuse] KDE 4 (Paralllel to KDE 3 on OpenSUSE 10.2) installation issues

Hi All, Trying to install factory build of the KDE 4 on my exisitng openSUSE 10.2 (KDE 3.5.7 upgraded) . Following the instructions from (http://en.opensuse.org/KDE4) 1. Using YaST, added the factory repository to installation source. 2. Not knowing what are the packages I need to install to get a KDE 4 desktop with basic apps, I tried installing (i) kde4-meta-base (ii) kde4-meta-default & (iii) kdebase4-session.But Faced with yast conflict list (attached with the email). 3. In the openSUSE wiki it is said that "The kde4-meta-base package depends on the packages for a basic KDE4 desktop while ..." which doesn't made any sense to me. If it is dependent then what is that dependency list? finally all I am looking for is to install a basic kde4 desktop installation. Please advise? Thanks, Soyuz

In my case there are other symptoms particularly with network connections that indicate this is not just a file system issue. I also found out today why some people have reservations about ext3. As an experiment I have one ext3 partition on my laptop... Which decided today to do an enforced fsck. If the whole thing was ext3 it would have taken 20 minutes to login. Not amused... [opensuse] Finally Frustrated enough about Mouse Clicks...

I am finally to the frustration point on this so I figured I would throw this out in case anyone has run across this and has something I have not tried. I have MS IntelliMouse Explorer USB optical mouse. Which essentially works fine, pretty much. The only issue I have is that single clicks keep showing up as double clicks. Which when you are in email clicking to delete something can mean you end up deleting more than you wanted. Or other rather annoying things. I get this whether I am using KDE or Xfce. I have tried both their tools for changing the double click speed, with no luck. What is more, is that it seems to relate to how long my system has been up. When I first boot up and log in, it might happen occasionally, after a week of uptime, practically every click comes through as a double click. I am not sure if there is any way to adjust this in the xorg.conf, or somewhere else. I have seen this in 10.0, 10.1 and 10.2. I am currently using 10.2, and as I said both XFCE and KDE exhibit the problem. I believe because it happens in both XFCE and KDE that its X related, also when I use x11vnc to come in, the mouse behaves fine, single clicks are single clicks. Any thoughts, or other tools to try? [opensuse] Revolution in networking - possible ?

hi all ! Few days ago I was at Cisco Expo 2007 in Israel, and came across truly revolutionary technology demo: WAAS. This technology is able to locally intercept and ack TCP-sessions as well as do application-layer-specific optimizations, and the performance win was HUGE - something like 10x-20x fold win ! ! ! http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v401/configurat… http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6870/index.html This results in downloading multi-megabyte files over the Internet in just few seconds ! (instead of minutes). I was totally shocked when I saw this in action. Unfortunately, Cisco and their pricing are out-of-reach for home users. OK, someone from SUSE at the Linuxtag told me that both Cores on my T7200 can run at different frequencies, thats what i've read everywhere too! I have a Thinkpad Z61p with one of these CPUs. cpufre-info says: CPUs which need to switch frequency at the same time: 0 1 OK, what the hell is going on here, i've bought a laptop with an T7200 Dual Core CPU!? Is there another CPU installed? [opensuse] system does not boot

Hello every body , I’m a newbie with Linux systems , so I hope if any on can help me , I’m in a big trouble ☹ I have a openSUSE 10.0 machine , I tried to install a rpm package that needs “lib.so.6(GBLIC 2.4) “ The installed version was GBLIC 2.3 , then I installed GBLIC 2.4 and this was the big mistake I did After system reboot , I got an error at booting , the system now can not boot up The error output is too much , I can not type it exactly but it looks like “INIT: Id “X” respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes” (this line repeated many times with X = 1,2,3,4,5,6 ) “/sbin/mingetty: relocation error :/ lib/tsl/lib.so.6:symbole _dl_out_of_memory version GBLIC_PRIVATE not defined in file Id-Linux.so.2 with link time reference” (this line repeated a lot also) Last line of the error is “No more processes in this run level” My question is, can I do something to remove GBLIC 2.4 so I can every thing back (using the rescue system for example) ---------- BR, Amr M. But this is a old computer (PIII 733, with 512Mb), so maybe the bottleneck is somewhere else. Or what do you think? The end goal is that this sits in a corner ("home made Buffalo TeraStation") and is accessed through the network. Currently I have 100Mb net, but I'm hoping to be able to change it to 1000Mb. But this is what I was disappointed with, from another (windows) computer I was reading a large 2,5Gb file, the network usage went only up to 63% of the capacity. I must try that with another client soon, but I was hoping for much better performance (I've seen 100Mb net go to steady 92%). And a strange thing, when I open sysinfo:/ in konqueror, this new RAID is not listed there under the disk information. Why could that be? [opensuse] KWeather Font

I would like to change the font on KWeather. However, it doesn't appear to be easy. I did google and found at least this recent post... http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=446241 ..which seems to indicate I can't. I don't appreciate that answer. Too limiting. Too much like wintendo. Any ideas on how I can do it? I want the font to be white. I'm changing my KDE background to be black with a transparent kicker. I want all fonts to be white. So far, I've changed the desktop icons and the time/date. Now I need kweather and the kicker icons. Here's an example of what it should look like - except for the debian thingy. I suppose I broke the thread, but I have no choice--the Linux machine is apart, and I have to write in Windows. I put the new writer drive in the machine, but I probably don't have the master/slave thing set right. The original, read-only drive has S L A available, and is jumper-set on A. The new writable drive has S L A, and also says S is cable select, L is slave, and A is master. It is jumper-set on L. It also says that C S is cable select S L is slave and M A is master So it looks like it is set up correctly, but, the system does not seem to recognize the new drive. The cable for the original drive has another connector on it, which I plugged into the new drive. What now? Do I need some kind of install routine? I thought that the system would automatically recognize new hardware. (SuSE 9.3.) (BTW--thanx to the folks who pointed me to K3B. I didn't know it was there. Now to get to use it....)
