[opensuse] mysql will not start after php upgrade

openSUSE 10.1 x86_64 updated mysql yesterday to mysql-5.0.41-4.1 and php5 today to php5-5.2.2-49.1. Noticed my photo gallery was down and found mysqld not running. [opensuse] SUSE Laptop Now Setup with VMWare

As some may recall, I got a new laptop a few weeks ago with Vista installed... http://www.perfectreign.com/?q=node/64&size=_original ...as I mentioned, I couldn't stand Vista. Loading the binary NVidia drivers fixed that and all is well... http://www.perfectreign.com/stuff/2007/20070528_suse_desktop.jpg ...now the last thing I needed was XP to be loaded for those apps requiring it at work. Being a dual-core 2.x GHz processor with 2G RAM, this can handle VMWare no problem. So, I'm now done... http://www.perfectreign.com/stuff/2007/20070530_suse_xp.jpg Onward! The only thing I notice with the laptop is the SD/MMC/SM/XD card reader on the front. In my case there are other symptoms particularly with network connections that indicate this is not just a file system issue. I also found out today why some people have reservations about ext3. As an experiment I have one ext3 partition on my laptop... Which decided today to do an enforced fsck. If the whole thing was ext3 it would have taken 20 minutes to login. Not amused... Hello every body , I’m a newbie with Linux systems , so I hope if any on can help me , I’m in a big trouble ☹ I have a openSUSE 10.0 machine , I tried to install a rpm package that needs “lib.so.6(GBLIC 2.4) “ The installed version was GBLIC 2.3 , then I installed GBLIC 2.4 and this was the big mistake I did After system reboot , I got an error at booting , the system now can not boot up The error output is too much , I can not type it exactly but it looks like “INIT: Id “X” respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes” (this line repeated many times with X = 1,2,3,4,5,6 ) “/sbin/mingetty: relocation error :/ lib/tsl/lib.so.6:symbole _dl_out_of_memory version GBLIC_PRIVATE not defined in file Id-Linux.so.2 with link time reference” (this line repeated a lot also) Last line of the error is “No more processes in this run level” My question is, can I do something to remove GBLIC 2.4 so I can every thing back (using the rescue system for example) ---------- BR, Amr M. [opensuse] Best way to copy mail (kmail)

Hi all, This is a basic question, but what is the best way to copy my email files from one install (9.3) to my new install (10.2). Same machine. Old install is mounted as same user name mounted at "data1". I have not used kmail on the new install yet, but did open kmail once, have not set up users. I see may old mail in /data1/home/user/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail. I see the same folder in the new install, with only a few sub-folders. Should I just copy the whole /mail folder over the new one and be done with it? Or would "cat" be better? Again, there is no mail in the new folder so I can overwrite it if need be. [opensuse] knetwork manager issues

Hi: I have a laptop hp nx 7300. If I leave the system running for more than a few hours the networkmanager program quits running and can't be restarted. I use it to manage the wireless networking on this system If I stop the network manager program and restart, I am returned a message that the network manager is not running. It does not appear to be possible to restart the network manager. In order to re establish a wireless network connection I am forced to restart the computer. Any way around this? I have the wireless card setup to be managed as a regular user with networkmanager. Gord -- Gordon J.
