Hi, i have a PHILLIPS DVD+-RW SDVD8820 writer on my laptop and trying to burn data to 4.4GB TDK medium i get: May 17 01:31:15 roamer kernel: ata2.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x2 frozen May 17 01:31:15 roamer kernel: ata2.00: cmd a0/01:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 tag 0 cdb 0x2a data 32768 out May 17 01:31:15 roamer kernel: res 40/00:03:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 Emask 0x4 (timeout) May 17 01:31:22 roamer kernel: ata2: port is slow to respond, please be patient (Status 0xd0) May 17 01:31:45 roamer kernel: ata2: port failed to respond (30 secs, Status 0xd0) May 17 01:31:45 roamer kernel: ata2: soft resetting port May 17 01:31:46 roamer kernel: ata2.00: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x1) May 17 01:31:46 roamer kernel: ata2.00: revalidation failed (errno=-5) May 17 01:31:46 roamer kernel: ata2: failed to recover some devices, retrying in 5 secs May 17 01:31:51 roamer kernel: ata2: soft resetting port May 17 01:31:51 roamer kernel: ata2.00: configured for UDMA/33 May 17 01:31:51 roamer kernel: ata2: EH complete That happened at the end of the process, using K3B. I'd say it's kernel or maybe hardware. Please report it via bugzilla. Vladimir Nadvornik -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sata based DVDs were not well supported in the 2.6.19 kernel. (ie.
Support has been gradually going in for the last year or so, and
2.6.22 was just released by Linus (kernel.org) a couple weeks ago).
I would try to get a factory kernel and try it out. I assume the
factory is now based on 2.6.22?
If the factory kernel is still too old, you could try a KOTD. If that
still fails, I whould report the bug straight to

Ok, i'll try a KOTD an report it if doesn't work. Thanks Ciro -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Tried with kernel-default-2.6.22_rc3_git2-29.1 with it didn't work. Although the simulation didn't give any error this time, but the real burn did.... Ciro, I would file a bugzilla directly against the kernel at kernel.org. Or you could post an e-mail to linux-ide@vger.kernel.org (you should not need to subscribe.) FYI: There are several kernel developers that monitor linux-ide. One of them is Tejun Heo. He works for Suse and I assume is responsible for the sata kernel driver in opensuse.
