Hello SuSErs In 2003, Snr G. Ballester Valor was so kind and published on our list, his Script to download the then current SuSE Distro How can this be adjusted for SuSE 10.2 please ?? - to be for Home-PC, english lang only, excluding ppc & excluding x86_64 architecture ........................ wget --passive-ftp -t 0 -m -nH -c --cut-dirs=4 -R "*.src.rpm" ftp://fftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/10.2/repo/oss/suse/i586/ ?? ............................. The CD set I got for 10.2 is terrible trouble because the paper CD Labels have developed Blisters! & are not readable :( . . . Thus, thought to try download - am getting in a dreadful mess having Downloaded about 6.5 giga & still not done . . . think must be pointing at the wrong directory!! [opensuse] Frostwire causes Network Crash

So these past two days, I've been enjoying my wireless network like I have been for the past two years. Well i noticed that I can be online for hours but almost half an hour after using frostwire, my network will crash. I will try to reconnect and will wind up having to restart network manager. Sometimes I have to restart the whole computer. It's kind of inconvenient. Anyone ever have a similar experience? Could it be foul play on my network? If it is... how can I tell. i am not a networking expert so I don't know how to see who's on my network or who's trying to hack or whatever. I don't even know what software to use to do this. Maybe someone knows of a crash course I can look at. Who knows, first we should solve this frostwire problem. Any ideas? Thanks. I would very much like to hear more from the SUSE developers on their future plans to resolve the many issues raised in this forum about the slowness and other issues of the Updater mechanism. For example: A) Do we have a buy in from the developers that the issues are real and worthy of fixing? B) That the mechanism is way to slow often taking an hour or tmore to install one rpm C) That the current mechanism hides the complexity of the process from the user not providing good feedback as to what is happening. Maybe this is ok, but when things go wrong most people don't know what to do. D) If design changes or major fixes are going to take place in a future release would the developers be willing to provide us with some hopeful words describing what they intend to do. I've been lurking for awhile and wanted to gather as much info as I could by still receiving the messages from the list. Sort of a database sort of thing, but I have some serious hardware issues I need to confront. I had to re-claim the real estate that Linux was on in order to move around some (a LOT) of files. Losing a 320gb hard drive isn't making life easy these days and that didn't help matters. :-( I should be getting the replacement next week, but another drive maybe on the outs too. Thus the present situation. So I might be getting two replacements next week! :-O Anyway, I do want to thank everyone that was helpful to me. I do appreciate it very much. Hello, now the question may seem simple ("how to grab the MAC address of a given interface"), but what is actually a "portable" way that does not potentially break when upgrading to a newer openSUSE? I could fiddle with `hwinfo --network` or try parse `ip l sh dev br0` output, but what's actually best? [opensuse] Problems with new 10.2 installation

I have a machine with three SATA drives. I didn't want Grub/Lilo on drives 1 or 2, so I temporarily disconnected these and installed 10.2 on drive 3 (which already has Windows Vista installed). Everything went smoothly and I was able to boot into Vista or 10.2 using Lilo. However, when I reconnected drives 1 and 2 and booted to drive 3 (via the BIOS) Lilo ran and I was able to boot into Vista without problems. But when I try to boot into 10.2 the startup hangs after a while and the machine requires a hard reboot. The last few lines of the screen show: ------------------------------------------------- Invoking userspace resume from /dev/sda5 resume: Could not stat consiguration file (Yes, that's stat) resume: libgcrypt version 1.2.3 resume: could not read the image Attempting manual resume from /dev/sda5 Waiting for device /dev/root to appear: ..............not found -- exiting to /bin/sh SH: no job control in this shell $ --------------------------------------------------- I disconnected drives 1 and 2 and all works normally again! Can anyone help this relatively new Linux user? [opensuse] Asus P4P800 ( ICH5R ) problem when installing openSUSE 10.2

Hi all, Hope someone can help me: I own a P4P800 Deluxe, with a ICH5R chipset, a DVD+-RW Drive ( PATA ) and a HD ( SATA ). When I select the install option, upon booting from the dvd, a while later appears a message that says that it cannot find the dvd. Also, the manual installation program claims that it cannot find any dvd/cd-rom. The HD is detected though... What can I do solve this. I'm running SuSE 10.1 like a charm... I have a Thecus N5200 NAS unit, which runs Linux. I can access the disks on it in WinXP or with Macbook OSX using the internal samba shares. However, With SuSse 10.2 I have some problems. I can access both smb://192.168.1.100/Disk1 or smb://192.168.1.100/usbhdd. If I try smb://n5200/Disk1 I can see the files, but smb://n5200/usbhdd comes up with blank page. (usbhdd is the share from N5200 which also has USB disk drive input) I also get the same with /media/usbhdd/ and /media/Disk1, that is, files show up with Disk1 but not with the usbhdd. Would appreciate any help on what I can look at to fix this. It does not make any sense that I have to use the ip address with linux when I can see the share in konqueror or that I can see the usbhdd mounted at /media but no files are there. [opensuse] network manager & vpn & vpn client (a bit long, as I'm confused)

Using SLED10, there is a nice-looking option in the network manager, a left click on the icon in the panel, and there is a "VPN Connections" option, you can configure vpn definitions, and then launch those that have been configured. If you choose to configure, there is a nice little wizard, and there is a choice to import a cisco PCF file. Awesome. But ... so far, I have not been able to get it to work. I constantly get the message: "could not start the vpn connection to "profile name" due to a connection error. Could not contact the VPN server" Hmm .. I know the "vpn server" is accessible, and I can connect to it using a cisco client. So, I went looking through the "Novell VPN Client for Linux" documentation. It describes a totally different VPN gui. It does not seem to have the nice little wizard, and does not reference specifically cisco compatible vpn connectivity, etc. Plus the "profile" that I had created in the network manager client, does not appear here. So ... are these two seperate VPN clients? Are they supposed to work together? The only documentation I can find about the network manager option is about a 1-paragraph description (ie not helpful). I would love for this to work, so that we do not have to install a cisco client. Anyone know the secret of the network manager vpn? Or how it relates to the "novell VPN client for Linux"?
