[opensuse] fireftp seg fault

Hi 10.2. I installed the fire ftp addon but get this it crashes immediately. I've uninstalled and reinstalled both firefox and the add on. firefox (Gecko:8403): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_get_parent_window: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed (Gecko:8403): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_is_viewable: assertion `window != NULL' failed (Gecko:8403): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_get_parent: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed /usr/bin/firefox: line 160: 8403 Segmentation fault LD_PRELOAD=/usr/$LIB/libaoss.so${LD_PRELOAD:+:$LD_PRELOAD} $MOZ_PROGRAM $@ Any ideas anyone? the reason I'm trying this is that gftp segfaults too. [opensuse] Automatically log in to two X sessions

Hi, I'd like to start two X sessions on vt7 and vt8 during boot and automatically log in two different users to these. I'm using OpenSuSE 10.1 and kdm, but I do not necessarily need a display manager, since there will not be a need for ordinary users to log in after the two sessions have started. [opensuse] strange pdftohtml feature

Hello, I use pdftohtml to make some manuals available inline page by page. these manuals are scanned, so each page is a graphic file (no OCR) I notice that: * if used without option, pdftohtml generates as many jpg files as page, and a very hudge html page (not hudge in itself, byt collecting all the images - 32 Mb in the example I have now, it freezes any system at loading :-) * when used with -c option, it generates individual html pages (good) but the files as png, 3 to 4 time biggers than the jpg. I'm on the process of writing a small sh script to make an index page from the jpg generated files (and this is quite easy), but I don't think this is a "normal" way of living. do you know any way to ask pdftohtml to make individual pages with jpg in place of png? I'm not a C progammer, so compiling the source is probably not a solution unless there is already a compiler option to do what I want. can this be seen as a bug? [opensuse] SLES9 ethtool options

Hi there, Can anybody point me at a document which clarifies the proper method of passing ethtool options to the network init scripts in SLES9? From what I can tell setting either the SLES10/OpenSUSE format 'ETHTOOL_OPTIONS' or the RedHat format 'ETHTOOL_OPTS' variables in /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth-id-<mac-address> will not work. Surely this must be possible. I can of course put a hack of some sort into if-up.d but I'd like to know what the proper method is since I need to roll this out to a number of servers. For the record I want to pass the equivalent of 'ethtool -s ethN autoneg off speed 100 duplex full' to the interface due to problems with some switches. Hi folks. Time to purchase a new barebones, and my lack of hardware knowledge is showing again.... If anyone with experience could advise: Dual Opteron (strong workstation, but no need for 3D graphics, etc.) Tyan Tiger (url with useful specs) http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/specs.aspx?EDC=578937 (url with useful specs) OR.... Tyan Thunder K8WE S2895A2NRF (url with useful specs) http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/specs.aspx?EDC=744609 I'm confused about a few things: 1) ATX vs. EATX form factor. Will the EATX Thunder fit in a "normal" tower case? e.g. http://www.thermaltake.com/xaserCase/tsunami/bwa/bwa.htm 2) The Tiger has AGP, while the Thunder has PCI-X. Seems the vid card I had in mind (nVidia 6200) is PCI-X. Indeed, my understanding is that AGP is "going away", and that PCI-X is what current and future boards have / will have. I indend to slap SuSE 10.1 on this thing, in case that is relevant to any of the issues. Wisdom and recommendations on these and related issues is solicited and welcomed. TIA. I don't think this is a KVM problem but more of a mother board issue as it initializes the mouse and keyboard on boot. And I have seen it many times on my Windows XP box and infact, it looses it more often than the Linux boxes, such that I keep a second mouse directly attached (USB) to the system. Here at my Office, I have a Windows 2003 Server that I have to keep a mouse directly attached because it won't work through the KVM at all. Oh, my KVM's are industrial strength, not inexpensive. [opensuse] Problem with mounting usb-storage device

I need to automatically mount a usb-storage device on plugin on a server (openSUSE 10.2). I have installed ivman for this an let it run by init. I added a hal policy to merge storage.policy.should_mount=true for usb storage devices (Shouldn't this be standard behaviour?). Now ivman tries to mount /dev/sda1 using halmount. But halmount gives the message "/dev/sda1: hal-storage-removable-mount refused uid 0" and doesn't mount the device. What can I do to convince ivman to mount the device? Is the default ivman configuration in openSUSE 10.2 restricted to auto mounting CDs and DVDs for non root users?
