[opensuse] FAT32 max size - 5 GB OK?

I am upgrading my workstation from SuSE 10.0 to 10.2, and while being at it I am considering changing the disk partitioning. It's a dual boot machine (Linux and WindowsXP) and I would like a rather large FAT32 for exchanging files between Linux and Windows. How large can a FAT32 partition be? Is 5 GB possible? [opensuse] question about compiling an app and installing

Hello All, I have been using Linux for a long time now but up until recently I never really did a lot of "configure make install" type builds for any of my boxes. As luck had it, there was an rpm available 99% of the time. Recently, I have run into a lot of scenarios where I needed a newer version of something and I had to go through a manual build process. Currently, have 3 systems that are pretty much identical. So lets say I want a newer version of wireshark or a gnome-applet that suse does not have yet in a repo. I would do the standard config make install procedure on all three boxes. I did notice that if the linux systems seem to be the same (ie. x86, i386) I can copy compiled binaries over to another box and I can use them there. Here is where my questions begin :) #1. Most of these apps have a lot of requirements when you build them, for example libpcap-devel or gnome-something-devel. I realized I do not need the "*devel*" rpms to be installed on the boxes i was compiling to. However, since there is no dependancy checking when I copy something over how can I know that the libpcap libraries actually exist? I assume my app will bomb out in the middle? #2. If I compile something on 586 openSuse will it work in 586 CentOS ? Is this just not a smart thing to do? Should you only copy between the same distro? #3. is there any way to keep track of the files installed? Or am I doing something findamentally wrong? Do I ./configure and make on one system and then do a make install on all of them? #4. How does one easily uninstall stuff that is installed by these methods? For how long will Novell provide patches and security updates for SuSE Linux 10.0? I have a server allready running 10.0 and have to decide if I want to stick to 10.0 or move to 10.2. I need a small server in my household - for laptop/workstation backup and file sharing in my family across Mac, Windows and Linux using Samba. Would like graphical Yast2 for config, but do not need KDE desktop etc. I have an old Celeron 400 Mhz with 128 mb and a new 250GB disk. Am I right in thinking this will do with openSUSE 10.2? [opensuse] Want to turn on the ScrollLock light on the keyboard

I have a Zonet 4-port KVM switching a keyboard between three computers and a mouse between two of them. For one of the boxes, I leave the NumLock key on, for another I leave it off. For the third, I'd like to have the ScrollLock light on. (If I add a fourth, I'd want to have both the NumLock and ScrollLock lights on when it is selected as having the keyboard.) With this scheme, I should be able to look at the keyboard, and from the state of the NumLock and ScrollLock lights, be able to tell which computer is going to get the keystrokes. The problem is that pressing the ScrollLock key causes problems (for me) with the readline behavior in Konsole without lighting the ScrollLock light. Hello list users: Could someone point me to a link where I can find detailed description on how to use kwinrule (KDE Control Center -> Desktop -> Window-specific settings)? I have no idea what 'window class', 'window role', 'window types', 'extra role' etc. are exactly. I would like to create a desktop icon that opens a window that shows the media storage devices. I want the window to open always at the same place with the same size and the same icon view without affecting the properties of any other window (eg konqueror). It depends what you need from your laptop. Hi All, I got this IP 75.126.21.163 spam my site, I try to block using apache and add this in my vhost.conf Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Order Allow,Deny Deny from 75.126.21.163 Allow from all But this spammer stil can get thru it. Why is this happen ? I'm using suse 10.0 and apache2-2.0.54-10.8 I also try to block using suse-firewall, but I dont know where should I add in susefirewall-custom. I understand there are 2 ways of running the network: "ifup" and "KnetworkManager". Ifup is run at bootup automatically and KnetworkManager is under user control. Try installing KnetworkManager in Yast and go to Network device configuration in Yast again. There should be a menu to switch from ifup to Network Manager. Hello all, I am having a bit of trouble getting sonypi working on my sony vaio SZ3XWP/C. OpenSuSe loaded fine and I was able to without any problems. However, I am having problems getting sonypi loaded. >From the documentation on the web, sonypi driver module is supposed to included with all kernels after 2.4.7. However when I type /sbin/modprobe sonypi, I get a fatal error message. There is no entry for sonypi in /dev/. Hello list members! I have googled, read xen wiki, looked at amd and intel web sites and still cannot come up with a definitive answer. I am, within the next week, going to purchase two laptops and I want to be able to run xen source with full virtualization on at least one of them (my wife still needs win xp). Here is what I came up with so far, correct me if I am wrong, any of the Turion X2's will support hardware vitualization and any of the core 2 duo's (except 2 specific like T5200 and T5400) will support hardware virtualization. I have, tried to be anyway, been a supporter of amd where possible since way back in the lawsuit days. What can I say, I like the underdog. I would prefer the Turions but am will to settle for the core 2s. [opensuse] Formatting a USB memory stick

I have a memory stick that works under 10.0 and 10.1. In 10.2 the stick is not recognizable because the partion table is not recognized. I was thinking of repartition the stick and reformat it. Is it possible to do this under 10.2. I had thought that once I installed the video drivers from ATI, the perfeormance would increase. Well, to a small extent, maybe. I can not change resolutions because it says it can't because I'm using "framebuffer"! So I was checking out a site on the web (http://calypso.tux.org/pipermail/novalug/2007-January/002331.html) and one guy is telling the other to edit the xorg.conf file. So I took a peek at the file and it says in the file not to edit the file. Of course I did not edit the file. I'm certain once I get the correct driver(s) and/or configuration right, I will then have smooth scrolling because I believe I have no acceleration whatsoever right now. Is there a fix for this?
