[opensuse] Toshiba Sattelite Laptop (p105) Wireless Connection set up for Suse

I have a new laptop, Toshiba Sattelite, P105, Came with Vista, and I installed Suse 10. Both are installed and running like a top, except I cannot get Suse to recognize the Wireless connection. I have a Linksys Wireless router and whatever the internal card in the laptop is. I can gather more info if I knew what was needed. The wireless works wonderfully on the Vista side. Any help or walkthru will be helpful. I have been trying to get it to behave, but have not been successful so far. [opensuse] possible kernel panic on install attempts

Here's a strange one. Sorry it's so long but I am at my diagnostic end with this.... I have a system (and 3 other identical ones) that uses a Tyan S2098AGN motherboard, 2.1GHZ Celeron w/512MB ram. I have been running openSuse 10.0 to 10.2 without issues. The board has integrated video but only allows up to 8MB of the ram to be shared. I picked up some XFX GeForce MX5200 128MB video cards (low profile, pci not pci-e) and tried to install. The openSuse installer is gold until it reaches the "Resolving Kernel Dependencies" message at 58% and freezes. (10.3) I tried all version from 10.0 to 10.3 with the same results. I have also tried Ubuntu 7.10, Fedora 8, Linux Mint, many others. Every other Linux distro fails far before getting to their respective installers and I see failures in the text display showing trace callbacks or something like that. I don't remember the specifics and there doesn't seem to be a way to capture the information. I have tried 5 other branded cards and models all with the same results. I flashed the bios with all available updates and nothing works. Here is the clincher. I can install XP and PC-BSD and run them. I can also get Knoppix 3.4 to run (not the newer version). So near as I can figure there is some kernel issue. To add to the heartache, I have tried to disable and set every "safe" setting the motherboard offers with no effect. Does anyone have any suggestions other than getting new motherboards? No versions of Linux of the 6 or 7 I tried seem to work. [opensuse] Dual graphics cards

I'm about to upgrade one of my machines and install an Nvidia 7300 card on it. It already has an onboard Intel graphics chipset. (Not sure which version, as I haven't fired it up yet.) No, with RAID1 (mirroring) I would only have half usable ... here I'm trying to use RAID5 which means, (as a rough rule of thumb), I should have (N-1)x(size of disk) for N disks, so for six 500GB disks I should have (6-1)x500=2500GB usable. Noting that that is very rough as a 500GB disk is only ~467GB usable anyway due to the way the manafacturers define disk sizes. [opensuse] Hardware Volume control on HP Laptop

I have an HP dv8000t with OpenSUSE 10.3 on it - Everything is working properly except for the hardware volume controls. I changed the volume control in the task bar to manage the PCM rather than the Master for the ALSA Mixer - this works fine. Using the hardware buttons, even though they display the volume going up and down, do not appear to control the right thing. Is there a way I can tie the physical volume buttons to the PCM control rather than the Master? ~mike No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. [opensuse] Help with Raid on 10.3

Greetings all, I'm trying to do a new install of opensuse 10.3 on a new server box. I'd like to have raid1 (mirror) set up with 2 drives. I don't know the full differences between md raid and dm raid, but I followed the instructions on installing md raid on the opensuse wiki, using yast to set up the raid partitions. The problem is the system won't boot on the first reboot after install. I originally set all partitions to be extended (not primary) which didn't boot. So I started over from scratch and set /boot as primary partition with all others, swap, /, /home, etc as extended, but it still won't boot. At this point I had enabled raid in the bios for both sata controllers, but not set up the raid volume in the motherboard raid controller. Switching gears I then tried setting up the dm raid in the bios and yast saw that as an nvidia_sometingorother and I believe that would have installed and booted, but I'm unsure whether or not I should use the dm raid or if the md raid is preferable. My mobo is an ECS C51G-M754. This is my first stab at raid, and would appreciate any advise anyone could give.
