[opensuse] Freetype autohinting issue

Has anyone else noticed problems with the default autohinting in freetype2? Some fonts are using the embedded bitmaps instead, particularly the new Vista ClearType fonts. Ubuntu users have reported the same issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freetype/+bug/145488. Is this a hard-coded patch, or something that can be turned off? Thanks! Already several times in this thread, it has been pointed out -- and at least once to you -- that people (not me, mind you, I don't use zypper/yast) want this save-rpm-behaviour as an *OPTION*. Do you know what an option is? Have you ever heard of such a thing as a checkbox where you can select something like "keep them" or "don't keep them"? You know, ever seen such a wierd thing as an option checkbox? It doesn't seem so. [opensuse] Remote Desktop Question - krdc

Is there any way to imbed the username in krdc. I looked at the docs ( http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdenetwork/krdc/index.html ) and can't see anything. When I go to connect to my Windows workstations, I often have to wait as it sends the username I have on my *nix box (kai) to the computers. [opensuse] ALSA and NI Audio Kontrol 1

Hi everyone, I'm trying to get my Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1 external USB sound card to work with OpenSUSE 10.3, but I cannot find the drivers for it, specifically the snd_usb_caiaq module. It doesn't show up in YaST, but I remember reading that this version of ALSA includes those drivers. Is there any reason OpenSUSE wouldn't include them? [opensuse] OpenSuse 10.3: Unable to boot anymore

Hello, This morning my desktop pc running in dualboot XP/OpenSuse 10.3 refused to boot up under openSuse. The boot goes as far as: ... /dev/sda10 on /home type ext3 (rw,acl,user_xattr) NTFS driver 2.1.28 [flags: R/W module] NTFS Volume version 3.1 after this nothing happens anymore unless I hit the [prt scr] buttom. If I hit that buttom the bootprocess goes further but stops at random points. At that point the only thing I can do is switch of the pc. I can boot up XP without problem. Is there a way to force the system to boot or to repair it? [opensuse] ATI Driver - Which Version?

I have an ATI Radeon 9000 AGP card, and am unsure which version of the ATI driver I should run in opensuse 10.3. The one click method says this newer version 8.41.7 is good for radeon 8500 and newer. But he ATI site shows the older version 8.28.8 from Aug 18, 2006 to be the last version that supports this card. Which one should I install?? When I xmodmap the keycode 222 issued by that key to some other function, it still pushes through a shutdown signal to opensuse (10.2) which happily responds and shuts down my Ultra 40 without even prompting for a confirmation. It's not simply being handled by init, either (though I did try changing the 'ca' id to something else). I can tell that kde itself is responding to this signal. If I leave a kde specific app open, like kate, with an unsaved file, then I press the sleep/suspend key, kate prompts me to save the file. If I instead hit the cancel button, kde briefly pops up a small modal dialog box: KDE Systems Notification - ------------------------- Logout canceled by 'kate' I tried editing some of the /etc/PolicyKit/privilege.d/hal-power-* files to alter permissions to see if I could disable the response to that key, but no luck. Is there some way I can view hal events similarly to the way xev displays X events?
