[opensuse] Auto-connect to Windows shares without password

On my openSUSE 10.3/Nautilus I've set up a connection to a networked Windows share (Win2kTS). Trying to open this Windows share, it asks for a password. First time entering password and selecting Always remember this password, continues by askinf for a password for a keyring. Then the Windows share map opens ok in Natilus. However, at each new login session, trying to open this Windows share, I have to enter the keyring password first. This is cumbersome, when one already has gone through a login authention to the local workstation. How can the password for Windows shares or keyring be entered and used automatically? --Terje J. [opensuse] Booting when /lib is on separate filesystem

Hi all. This is more of a generic question but there are lots of knowledgeable people here so I think it is a good place to ask. A while back I tried to compile and install a new kernel but ran out of space on the root filesystem. To fix this I tried moving /lib onto a separate spare partition. I updated /etc/fstab but then found that the system would not boot because /lib wasn't mounted early enough. Is there a correct way (or an elegant way) to fix this? Does it require a rebuild of initrd? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Well, Jason, perhaps they have changed but it doesn't look like it. I read the reason they had to ship their own jvm was because real java cannot be used to do their instant/constant compilation -- that's what I've read. I've also read there is a JSR to add that capability to real Java. In my experience, and admittedly I do a lot of Swing development, Eclipse is not usable on Linux (unless the one jvm instance per open JFrame was a bug they've since fixed). I've seen plugins that have specific warnings they only work on Windows. To me, that voids the whole concept of Java. [opensuse] Problems with Smart?

For several days now, while trying to upgrade using smart I get messages similar to this:- error: Failed to download packages: error: http://download.opensuse.org/update/10.3/rpm/i586/kernel-default-2.6.22.12-…: Unexpected size (expected 21215623, got 728540) error: http://download.opensuse.org/update/10.3/rpm/i586/nautilus-2.20.0-5.2.i586.…: Unexpected size (expected 1610564, got 743140) Can anybody let me know is this a problem with smart, the repository, the package or my system? [opensuse] K3B Weirdness

I'm running 10.3 i386, I can write to DVD's no problem but if I burn a CD ISO, the drive goes though the motions of writing the CD but K3B reports that it's 'closing the session' from the off and once the drive finishes it reports that it does not have permission to open the device. Upon investigation the recorded CD looks fine. I've basically no clue as to what to do with this, worked fine on 10.2 and DVD's are fine, it's just a bit disconcerting not knowing whether or not my CD's have written correctly. I'll try it from the command line to determine whether it's K3B or cdrecord but other than that I've no clue as to what to do. [opensuse] screen saver intermittant

Going back through the last 5 versions of SUSE I have observed this same problem with the screen saver. I am currently on 10.2 and about to go to 10.3 I have the screen saver set for random (more interesting that way) to start after 4-minutes of idle time. I have: Use OpenGL screen savers and Use screen savers that manipulate the screen clicked on. Also, somewhere, I have it set to just go dark/blank after about 10-minutes. Every once in awhile (sometimes a month) this fails and the screen just stays on. Nothing I can think of to do works to restore the functionality outside of a reboot. This time I did notice that I had Firefox minimized but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. Any ideas what causes this intermittent behavior? [opensuse] External USB disk drive - how to get started?

[opensuse] Notebook Asus M2400N (M2N series) since Opensuse 10.2 (and 10.3)

Dear list, my laptop is a asus m2400n which (as far as I read) part of the M2N(NB) notebook series. Some time ago when I installed Opensuse 10.2 I had to update BIOS. It is now version 208 (from 2006/11/03). Old BIOS made Opensuse 10.2 install failing. Kernel even didn't start with acpi turned on. After loading kernel there was a immediate restart. I know that it wasn't the whole acpi but I didn't test every option because BIOS update made it. Now it's BIOS 208. I tried to install Opensuse 10.3. And what happend? Same story as with 10.2 install. Can't install it. The notebook restarts after kernel loading. After trying around I know now that I have to turn off local apic (kernel parameter lapic=off). 1) There isn't a new BIOS on asus website. So is there anybody who knows which apic parameters has exactly to be turned off?? 2) What do I need lapic for generally? Everthing works fine without it except irda. [opensuse] Radeon 9000 and latest ATI

Ive checked the suse sites and did a bit of searching, but I cant get a clean cut answer about the compatibility of the latest ATI driver and the Radeon 9000 and TV-out. I just need TV-out support - apparently the ati driver cant enable it. You need the official ATI driver for it - but some report that the old Radeon cards are not supported anymore? And the old driver wont work with xorg 7.2? What to do?
