I've noticed that the Windows version of the Quick Starter includes a "From Template" option, but the Linux version doesn't. Instead the Linux Quick Starter has a "Global" option, which, as far as I can tell, simply opens up Writer. Perhaps the Linux Quick Starter can be changed to open templates. That global option is a waste of space. tnx jk

create filesystem on second HD

Hi list; I have a bay in my laptop for a 2nd hard drive. If I place a hard drive there, how can I access / use it. (I assume I'll have to create a new filesystem? ) Any guidance would be appreciated... Thanks in advance

Problem with ATI drivers in SUSE 10.1

Minor problem with getting the ATI drivers up and running on a 10.1 install. Video card is ATI X1300, monitor is Acer AL1916W (wide screen 1440x900 resolution) I've followed the instructions here: http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/17340.html And everything seems to go smoothly until I type in sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx Sax starts up and then the monitor goes out of range, and nothing is displayed. How can I get past this? How can I get SAX to start up with frequencies that will work with my monitor. I do know what the horizontal and vertical frequencies are supposed to be. C.

Yes, now that I've got smart working, I can see my laptop happily downloading and installing some sixty odd updates. It appears several of them are the .i686 versions, which means they'll probably be faster. prism54 driver and WPA

Hi guys, I just migrated my wireless setup to WPA2 instead of WEP, only to find that my own workstation is the only box that can't connect. It's a Prism54 card, running SUSE 10.0 Is there any way to make it work, or does prism54 simply not support WPA? I thought of using ndiswrapper, but I haven't found windows drivers that work with the card, and the card itself is not branded, has no model number or any sort of identification on it. Thanks Hans

Are there any problems to look out for when installing 10.1 on an AMD 64 Dual-Core?

Hi all, Soon after 10.1 arrived on the scene, I purchased the DVD version and installed it on my Athlon XP2000. I had almost sorted it all out and had it running the way I like when the hard drive died. I replaced that and the memory went out soon after re-installing 10.1. So I ordered a new upgrade (AMD Dual-Core 64 3800) for my box. The upgraded computer should be ready for the installation of 10.1 by Tuesday evening. I have enjoyed SuSE on AMD Athlons since May, 2000 when I bought my first boxed version of SuSE (6.4). I've had many hours of uneventful installs installing SuSE on 32 bit computers since 7.2 (6.4 was anything but effortless). Is there anything about installing SuSE 10.1 on a 64 bit machine I should be aware of, or is the install on a 64 bit machine as easy as installing on a 32 bit machine? Thanks-Tom Thomas E. Search /var/log/messages for the errant device and run fsck on it. "man fsck" ie: fsck.ext3 /dev/hdc6 fsck.reiserfs /dev/hdc6 then restart your filesystem. Unable to connect to Wireless Network

Hello, Few weeks back I loaded SUSE10.1 on my laptop. Since then I was facing one problem or the other and many a times I had to reinstall as I was helpless and didn't know way out. I am sure there must have been solutions but to me back then reinstallation was the easiest option. In my latest installation the Wireless card went undetected last week I had posted in this list that I am unable to install the Intel Pro 2200 BG on my IBM R52 thinkpad. With valuable inputs I was able to do that. Now, comes another problem. The area I am putting up, has around 8-9 wireless networks, mostly unencrypted and the one of my campus is encrypted. I can connect to the unencrypted networks but not to my campus's network. The unencrypted networks are no good as they don't provide connectivity to the internet. (probably they are in testing phase or something) I had a talk with the system administrator. He told me that he has set the wireless configuration to 64 bit WEP passphrase on channel 8. He also told me that he doesn't clearly remember thing so he asked me to meet him again on Friday as that day he will show me the entire configuration. Now, my question is, since I am unable to connect, and I have an appointment with him; what should I look for. He is having little knowledge of Linux and operates a windows machine. What exactly happens is that when I select the desired wireless ESSID, the Knetwork manager progresses to 58 % where it says committing ip configuration and exits. Sometimes, it even exits at 27% where it says configuring the device. I did a tail -f /var/log/NetworkManager from console and at one point I read that DHCP took too long, more than 45 sec to connect. I had posted this problem of not able to connect sometime back also but didn't get much help on it. I hope someone can help me this time. -- Puneit Singh 0091-9350832020
