[opensuse] Sound in Opera

[opensuse] Guttenprint 5.0?

Hey SuSE guys, Anyone working on providing the new Guttenprint 5.0 to all us users? Will it, can it replace the present libgimpprint file/s or just installed along side of for the moment? find command broken?

On a machine (sles9) with postfix installed, and a file called sendmail in the /usr/sbin directory, when I do a find as so: rpcweb:/ # find / -name sendmail -ls the results I get are: find: /proc/32239/task: No such file or directory find: /proc/32465/task: No such file or directory find: . changed during execution of find rpcweb:/ # But, the file is there ... rpcweb:/usr/sbin # ls -l sendmail -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 122142 Jun 27 2005 sendmail rpcweb:/usr/sbin # why does find not FIND it? as you can see below, this syntax actually finds something when finding 'php' but not when finding 'freetds' or even 'apache' (both things that in fact exist) -- what gives, here? rpcweb:/ # find / -name freetds -ls find: /proc/32239/task: No such file or directory find: /proc/32465/task: No such file or directory find: . changed during execution of find rpcweb:/ # find / -name php -ls 1015866 4 drwxr-xr-x 8 root root 4096 Feb 27 18:55 /home/httpd/include/php 1000955 4 drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 Feb 9 13:54 /home/httpd/lib/php 999927 6324 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 6460639 Feb 27 18:55 /home/httpd/bin/php find: /proc/32239/task: No such file or directory find: /proc/32465/task: No such file or directory find: . changed during execution of find rpcweb:/ # I am thinking the cause of this has something to do with the files being hidden? [opensuse] Wireless card won't work in 10.1

Trying to get a Orinoco Gold pcmcia/wifi card to work inSuse10.1, it works perfect in Fedora5 on the same laptop with the Orinoco driver, WindowsXP, Fedora5, Suse10.1, triple boot. but with the hostap driver in suse it won't work. Another ?, suse reconizes the ethernet card as eth1 and wifi as eth2, what happen to eth0?? That's how Yast2 sets it up. Anomoly with CUPS?

On a server running SuSE10.0 with CUPS 1.1.23, I am confused by Yast's printer configuration. I have two printers currently configured, HP990C and HP1120C, both added via Yast. During the process I told Yast the make and model of each printer and the display confirmed this information before I accepted the configuration. However, when I go back to the printer configuration, it tells me that both printers are unknown. Is this normal? My printers.conf file shows as: # Printer configuration file for CUPS v1.1.23 # Written by cupsd on Wed Aug 9 10:04:16 2006 <Printer hp1120> Info A3 Colour DeviceURI lpd://192.168.74.205/P2 State Idle Accepting Yes JobSheets none none QuotaPeriod 0 PageLimit 0 KLimit 0 </Printer> <DefaultPrinter hp990> Info A4 Colour Double sided DeviceURI lpd://192.168.74.201/P1 State Idle Accepting Yes JobSheets none none QuotaPeriod 0 PageLimit 0 KLimit 0 </Printer> and the port test recognises each lpd port. When I try to print a test page, I get a single line of text, then a line feed and the next line carries on off the page without returning to the left edge. I hope that this is not normal but am not sure if this is related to the unknown printer or is a separate issue. Would I be better off not using Yast, and, if so, what do I need to add to printers.conf (or other files) to ensure correct operation of both printers? (including a filter setting for the hp1120 to use A3 paper by default) Many Thanks John

Logging on to a SMB share that has a domain.

Hi, I wish to map a SMBFS drive located on a Win 2000 server, however I need to log onto the Windows domain to access the drive however I can't remember how to specify this in Konq. I'm sure it was something like: smb://user\DOMAIN@Server/Share/drive/ but it's not working, want to make sure I'm using it correctly before I blame the Windows server, I've had a look on the net but haven't yet found anything useful. Intel ALC880 RealTek Driver for Linux

Top of the morning to yous SuSE fans, I have installed SuSE 10.0 (boxed set) on my HP S7400N Pavilion Slimline, triple boot (WinXP, HP PC Recovery, SuSE 10), and have the machine running nicely including accelerated graphics to a Samsung 713v flatpanel. I love this tiny machine 1.6Ghz, 160GB HD, 512M main memory, 3D graphics 128M, DVD+R/RW lightwrite. Very nice, and very small... got it on clearance from BestBuy $399.00. Only one glitch... you knew there had to be one didn't you? ;-) HP used Intel's ALC880 (RealTek) internal high definition audio, and of course it didn't work with SuSE 10 because the ALC880 open drivers don't ship with 10.0. I believe the drivers should be included in a future SuSE distro (if not already in 10.1). I pulled the driver sources from RealTek: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads1-3.aspx?keyword=ALC880 The file is: realtek-linux-audiopack-4.04c.tar.bz2 Previous is: realtek-linux-audiopack-3.5-6.tar.bz2 The drivers for the ALC880 (and family) are provided by the www.alsa-project.org. The installer readme indicates that ncurses needs to be installed for the SuSE distro, and the instructions give two compile/install methods... automatic and manual. My realtek question is whether the SuSE tech guys (or the SuSE fan club user base) has any experience with these drivers or the alsa project, and whether there are any considerations I should be aware of before I play around with this. It looks like the primary diff between the two available versions is the number of ALC8xx cards supported, but I am wondering if SuSE is aware of whether one or the other is more compatible with the 10.0 boxed distro. I am tempted to compile the sources (non root) with the makefile, then manually install based on the instructions as root. Are there issues (security or otherwise) that can arise by doing the automated ./install as root? Thanks for your thoughts guys and gals. M Harris

The Intel Open Source Technology Center graphics team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of free software drivers for the Intel® 965 Express Chipset family graphics controller. These drivers include support for 2D and 3D graphics features for the newest generation Intel graphics architecture. The project Web site is http://IntelLinuxGraphics.org. This release represents the start of a long term effort by Intel to work with the X.org and Mesa communities to continuously improve and enhance the drivers. While these drivers represent significant work at both Tungsten Graphics and Intel, as our first release of this code, they're still in need of significant testing, tuning and bug fixing before they'll be ready for production use. We're releasing them now to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to providing free software drivers for Intel hardware. The Intel® 965 Express Chipset represents the first product family that implements fourth generation Intel graphics architecture. 10.0 - using yast2 to do only one update

I want to install only one update, Acrobat 7.0.8. I downloaded only that deltarpm, and trying to install it I get this error: acroread-7.0.1_7.0.8-4_1.1.i586.delta.rpm install failed rpm output: error: acroread-7.0.1_7.0.8-4_1.1.i586.delta.rpm is a deltarpm, create a real rpm from it first! OK, so where is the howto on doing that? Is there a way to use YaST2 to install only one patch from the GUI?
