10.1 online update problem

Hi, I have finally worked up the courage to try 10.1 again. I have done a clean install. Of course the "Software Updater" shows there is no updates available, so I started YOU. There was some updates, so I installed them. I rebooted, and voila, the Software Updater now shows 66 updates available. I open the window, click the update button, and ... : Unresolved dependencies: Updating patch:libzypp-1839-0.noarch[System packages] to patch:libzypp-1533-0.noarch[SUSE-Linux-10.1-Updates] Updating patch:libzypp-1839-0.noarch[System packages] to patch:libzypp-1839-0.noarch[SUSE-Linux-10.1-Updates] script:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch[System packages] needed by patch:libzypp-1533-0.noarch[SUSE-Linux-10.1-Updates] Updating script:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch[System packages] to script:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch[System packages] script:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch[System packages] is scheduled to be installed, but this is not possible because of dependency problems. Establishing script:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch[System packages] ========================= It looks like I already have a newer version. Does YOU use a different default repositry from zmd? Well I deselected libzypp updates, and that seemed to do the trick. Just curious. Thanks Marius

Confused by CUPS on SuSE 10.0

Server running SuSE 10.0, CUPS 1.1.23, run mode 3 Trying to administer CUPS from workstation via port 631 and Firefox browser. At server command line, I've set up lppasswd -g sys -a john and added a password. In browser, connect to http://server:631/admin, enter user name and password and am allowed in. However, I can only add printer and class. Anything else results in error 403, Forbidden. What is causing this message and how can I get round it, please? Many thanks John

The Intel Open Source Technology Center graphics team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of free software drivers for the Intel® 965 Express Chipset family graphics controller. These drivers include support for 2D and 3D graphics features for the newest generation Intel graphics architecture. The project Web site is http://IntelLinuxGraphics.org. This release represents the start of a long term effort by Intel to work with the X.org and Mesa communities to continuously improve and enhance the drivers. While these drivers represent significant work at both Tungsten Graphics and Intel, as our first release of this code, they're still in need of significant testing, tuning and bug fixing before they'll be ready for production use. We're releasing them now to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to providing free software drivers for Intel hardware. The Intel® 965 Express Chipset represents the first product family that implements fourth generation Intel graphics architecture. Designed to support advanced rendering features in modern graphics APIs, this chipset family includes support for programmable vertex, geometry, and fragment shaders. [SLE] wireless mice problem

Hi! I'm running 10.1 and everything is smooth except one annoying problem. My wireless mice (i've tried 2: microsoft standard wireless mouse and logitech v500) freeze after not being used for around 5 minutes. Reconnect buttons do not help. Keyboard still works though, but when i try to log out - the whole system freezes and i need to manually shut it down. I'm using gnome desktop. I've tried various drivers from what i could find in yast, i've looked thru power management sections, but couldn't get any result. This thing also happened during installation once, but seemingly didn't have effect on it. Is there something i can do about it besides getting a wired mouse?

Zabbix on Suse 10.1 ??

Hey, I'm really sorry for this off-topic. But I just started to think it's a suse-specific problem. I'd like to ask Suse users who're using the Zabbix monitoring system.... There was no problem durning the installation. Now I've a problem when creating new Item for a newly created Host template. Host is created OK and is already assigned to the Template group. Well so I choose Items, Create Item, filled-up the form and clicked Save button. Nothing happened. The form reloads with the filled informations. So I tried to click Create Item again and the form reloads emty. When listing existing Items there are only the old. I searched the database with no result. The Item was'nt created. Other thing that appears many times on many places when browsing zabbix frontend (displays bellow the menu): (in Configuration/Items) Warning. Field [type] is not integer (in Configuration / General/ Media tyeps) Warning. Field [type] is not integer Warning. Field [smtp_server] is mandatory Warning. Field [smtp_helo] is mandatory Warning. Field [smtp_email] is mandatory (in Configuration / General/ Housekeeper) Warning. Field [type] is not integer (in Monitoring/ Overview, but only when logged as admin. when as guest its ok) [ERROR:Invalid URL] Critical error. Field [type] is not integer I'm new to Zabbix so maybe I'm doing something wrong. [snippety-doo-dah] This is where I snipped the entire remainder of Mike's post that you unnecessarily retained (and did not comment on), as well as the entire, un-edited and un-commented text of Dana's message, to which Mike had replied. In most of the other mailing lists in which I participate, THAT is a crime, and gets your knuckles soundly rapped. Considerate replies trim and edit the text to which they are replying, and never leave 50+ lines of untouched old message at the end. It's not friendly to people who receive individual messages, because they often scroll down through the stale stuff just to see your next comment, only to find that you have no further comment. It's extremely unfriendly to people who receive lists in digest format. I'm guilty myself, sometimes, but it's rare, and it's always an embarrassing mistake, rather than my standard don't-give-a-f*** policy. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm getting dizzy up here on the soap-box. Hi , I've asked before with no answer :( Does anyone know the url of the repository which has rpms to install gnome 2.14 . I did some hunting on as many Suse sites and I thought I had found them off this url:- http://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/10.1-i386/ But looking today not there, maybe I bookmarked the wrong url. I want to install Gnome 2.14 or later to check if the bug effecting sound is a Suse bug or a gnome bug. I know other distros using Gnome 2.14 do not have this bug. TIA Richard

3ware SATA Raid (9500S-8)

Hi all, I'm testing a 3ware sata raid interface (9500S-8) with a suse 10.1 on an intel-based server (motherboard asus p4p800 with a cpu p4 3 GHz). Based on http://en.opensuse.org/HCL/SATA_IDE_Cards, it's supported. No problem to create the raid volume, to initialize it, to do the mkfs (reiserfs), to copy files, etc... but after a moment, the server becomes unstable and freezes... Generally after some I/O... If I remove the 3ware controller, anymore problem. Any idea? Any experience with this card?
