[opensuse] which Smart channels?

When Smart is installed (from suser-guru), he offers a number of channels. Are any of these considered "bleeding-edge"? I don't mean the Packman stuff, but e.g. KDE backports. Smart, Invalid package file format. Invalid header found.

On my 10.1 I am using Smart for updates. Everytime I start Smart I get following information: Invalid package file format. Invalid header found. After I click the OK box everythings runs as expected and I have not found anything informing me that there is something amiss. I am running Smart Package Manager 0.42. Can somebody tell me what and where I can "repair" Smart?

Installing RPM Sources in SuSE 10.1

Hi, The question might be silly, but moving from SuSE 9.2 to 10.1, how do I install the sources of the applications that are distributed with Yast, as in previous versions, or there is another (new) way? Regards Lívio Cipriano

Hiya! My laptop crashed in the middle of running an online update (Suse 10.1). Now i can't start X11 (the X11 base package was being updated when it crashed), and when i try to reinstall X or do an online update (via the console yast) almost all packages fail with an error saying i must "rebuild the database". But... what database? How? i'm assuming it's an rpm db, but... WTF??? A useless error message. Of course, i can't paste in the complete output from the error because it's on my laptop console. And the kicker is, i can't abort the installation because the "Abort" hotkey (alt-r) doesn't work/respond. So i'm forced with either killing yast from another terminal (almost ensuring further corruption) or sitting and tapping "ignore" twice for each package (the error dialog pops up twice for each error, for some unknown reason) and do this for an indeterminate number of packages which are in the update queue. Aaaarrrrgggghhhh. <rant> i'm so pissed off with Suse 10.1 that i'm now downloading kubuntu. If i can't get the laptop back running without a reinstall of the system, the reinstall won't be suse. [opensuse] Installing 56k Modem in Suse10.1

I have a 56k modem that has run under Fedora and I want to setup in Suse10.1 Below is the info on the modem, is there a driver in Suse for this modem. This isn't a Windows modem , it is a Lucent "Venus" compatible modem that will run in Linux. Redhat9 and Fedora has drivers that would run it. I'm new to Suse and I don't know how to set it up in Suse. Also Suse doesn't have a "rc.local" file , if I build one will Suse read it at bootup, I have to put a setserial line in it. [opensuse] SLED 10 Gnome source RPMs

Hi, Gnome seems to have reached 'almost usable' level bugwise on SLED10 and new menu is just great. Any chances these source RPMs would be available somewhere to try to compile them for 10.1? [opensuse] Problem with CD drive while instaling PHP using YAST

Hi to all! I have SuSE SE9. Want to install PHP. Opened YAST, fount php, checked apache2-mod_php4, php4, php4-mysql and clicked on Accept, then Continue on Automatic Changes window and then got popup Insert SUSE LINUX ES9 CD 3. I did but nothing happened. After I clicked on Show details, got this: URL: cd:///;devices=/dev/hdc ERROR(Media: not attached) Using Konqueror I went to /media/cdrom and I can see everything. For testing, I downloaded one of files form CD to Desktop. Means cdrom is mounted. Is CD ROM maybe broken? Or, I'm doing something wring? HP 1160 on Linux(SuSE 9.2)

I am investigating getting a new printer after my old Epson Stylus 800+ inkjet decided to not play along any more. I have identified the HP 1160 as the one that I want and have done some browsing of the HP and linuxprinting.org site. The printer is touted as working flawlessly, however I wonder if anyone else has had issues with this model on SuSE 9.2(unpatched) and using CUPS?
