Well, so do I... that isn't (or wasn't) the point. The point is that Novell costomizing creats an environment which is often only SuSE friendly, and (like all automation eventually) is difficult for newbies to handle when the automation (tweaking I think it was called) fails. Newbies are going to be exasperated to find that Fedora is diff from SuSE is diff from Debian is diff from Ubuntu etc etc etc. The way Linux works under the covers should not change from distro to distro... there should be a standard and no automation scheme (tweaking) should break the standard for prevent manual configuration--- otherwise we end up with a *nix version of Redmond (M$). By the way... once you get something critical (like Yast, YOU) working correctly, don't mess with it. Leave it alone... and for crying out loud... don't change it on a release boundary... the installers and updaters have got to be (next to the kernel) the most stable part of the system. Without a good reliable updater nothing else can be fixed either--- don't don't "tweak" it...

Kontac Config Files

Hi, I found some behaviors in Kontact, that I classify as aleatory, but they seam to manifest when I log out from kde without close Kontact first. Sometimes, some folder's configurations (specially with mailing lists associated) are lost when I close Kontact. Other times, I reopen Kontact and trying to close it, I receive a message stating that my contacts can't be saved cause they are locked. Any ideas why this happens? Regards, Lívio Cipriano

Reloading media system

After suffering a hard disk I/O error, I lost X, see previous post. I tried updating ALL packages in YaST2, during the update, YaST2 crashed with several more I/O errors. All I did after the initial system started giving me problems was 'fsck -y' on all device partitions. This evidently wiped out some of the system files and I assume I need to reload at this point? Is there something more than fsck that I should run on the drive to see if it can be re-used or should I discard my fairly new 150GB drive? I have a second question. If I reload, I have three SATA drives using LVM with XFS format to store data on this media server. Will a new install see that LVM as is? I want to avoid losing that data and not sure how a re-install of 10.0 will handle it. Or, should I put 10.1 on it this time? I use 10.1 on my workstation and STILL do not have my updates working right, I have to manually do them in YaST. I got so tired of searching for a solution to that after 2 or 3 failed to revive the updates. Do updates work now with a fresh install of 10.1 with updates applied during install? Also, I would need to make sure the MythTV packages are available for 10.1, that was loaded using 10.0 as this is a media server. Sorry for the long post, just looking for some guidance. MP3 Woes in Amarok

suse 10.1 software updates

Hello my problem wiyh suse 10.1 is that i cannot run any update since i install suse .i reinstall suse up to 4 time but nothing changed the system tray icon say that there arenot any updates found how can i solve that ?? plz i want help thanks -- mhm2010mhm
