[SLE] Automounting under 10.1?

Ok, I give up, where does one configure which devices should be automounted when media is inserted with OpenSuSE 10.1? My Cdrecorder and DVD work, but /dev/sr0 does not. [SLE] Rollback patch?

Hi, How do I rollback a patch? Specifically on Open SuSE 10.0 I just received a security patch for gpg2 and applied it with YOU. Since installing decryption of emails using Kmail have become very screwy. In some cases I get a error ========== Encrypted message (decryption not possible) Reason: Crypto plug-in "openpgp" could not decrypt the data. Error: Bad passphrase ========== but it never actually prompts me for a passphrase. In others I get a message box "Please enter your OpenPGP passphrase", and it does work, but the passphrase is not cached, so must be re-entered everytime the message is accessed. As gpg2 was the only patch I applied, and the behavior started after the I applied the patch, I am sure it is the problem. How do I rollback to patch? [SLE] SuSE 10.0 NTP Server

I must be missing something, I am moving my ntp server from freebsd to SuSE 10.0 becuase the freebsd box will be retired. I have everything setup and ntp running but for some reason the other unix box's can't bind to the ntp server and sync off of it. [SLE] Media Check OK, but not OK when installing

Hi all, Has anyone come across this? I downloaded the ISO files of Suse 10.1, and did md5sum on them and the result was OK. Then I burnt them on CD, did a media check, and the result was OK. But, when I tried to install php-gd on CD5, it said that the package failed integrity check. [SLE] samba clients cannot see all files in directory - 10.1

Samba server (3.0.22-11-SUSE-CODE10) installed in SUSE 10.1, clients range from Mandriva 2005, SUSE 10 and Win XP stations. I've got a folder with approx 1900 files in it on the samba server, but the clients can only see files that start with the letters A thru the first few starting with J, approx 780 files or so, approx 3.1Gb. All files beyond the first few letter J's cannot be seen. On the SUSE 10 client where I can get NFS working, that client can see all of the files in the same directory. Is there some variable for samba which controls this behavior? [SLE] CUPS and Samba problems

Hello! I have Samsung laser printer, which is connected over USB to PC with Suse 10.0. There was a CD with printer, which also included support for linux, so i`ve installed included LPP (linux printing package) which has added the printer. The test page prints perfectly. Then i set up Samba with intention that the win users could also use printer overt the network. The problem is that when i try to use printer in WinXP i get "access denied" error although the printer is installed over "connect" option in win. I can also browse some samba shared folders. I have added the same user as it is in winxp to linux and also samba. What I am forgeting? Thanks for the hints. Scorpy

Hi, Whoever wants to try, with todays kernel update using ATI and NVIDIA commercial drivers should now be possible (again). Add as ZYPP / YUM source: http://www2.ati.com/suse/ as repo for ATI drivers and Packages: x11-video-fglrx ati-fglrx-kmp-default (replace default by your kernel flavour) ftp://download.nvidia.com/novell for NVIDIA drivers. Package: nvidia-gfx-kmp-default (replace default by your flavour) While these are the SLED 10 drivers, but SLE 10 now has the same kernel as SUSE Linux 10.1. (Unfortunately I dont know how to activate them, but perhaps someone else does.) [SLE] Cups stuck on A4 with 10.1

Okay 10.0 had a love of A4 but I was able to get it to print. 10.1 really seems to LOVE A4 paper. No matter how I change things it refuses to print and when I check the settings in the cups print manager it's back to A4 not US letter. I've restarted the server. I've recreated printers queues.I've tried not using the test and sending a test to the printer. I've stood on my head. Other then printing 10.1 seems great. [SLE] Yast2 online update Problem

I posted this to alt.os.linux.suse and alt.linux.suse and did not receive any answer. (But remarks from two people having apparently the same problem.) Maybe here someone can help. Two days ago I was trying to update Suse 10.1 (where is this information hidden, Yast2 seems to be versionless!) after I had determined that my ghostscript was out of date. Yast2 -> YOU -> selecting a few checkboxes, continue -> update runs. When I returned later, I saw a dialog box indicating a restart shall be commencing. Ok'd, after which YOU starts again (?). Again selecting a few checkboxes, continue -> update runs. When I returned later I see that the console is full whith these error messages: /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/y2base: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/YaST2/plugin/libpy2Pkg.so.2: undefined symbol: _ZN4zypp13SourceManager7restoreENS_10filesystem8PathnameEbRKSsS4_ I was able to kill Yast2. golem:~ # ps -aef | grep yast root 10197 1 0 08:58 pts/0 00:00:00 /bin/bash /sbin/yast2 online_update golem:~ # kill 10197 Well, I can now neither install nor deinstall with Yast2. Yast(1) seems to call the same internal software, because I receive the same hang-up, but on the console so I can't read the error messages. Does anybody know how to get out of this mess? Possibly with the Boot-CD and then with a new installation, but I was thinking of a less dire measure. [SLE] yast 2 adding url's

Hi I'm still getting big problems with yast2 setting installation sources, using url entry from the add pulldown. Each source I've tried I've checked the url and cut and pasted from the browser, so the url's are valid, leaving out the final directory and trail slash. example http://dg7gt.osth.de/suse-10.1-ham/suse ftp://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/cu… OK the 2nd one is a bit long but . I've worked my way through the list on this site http://www.novell.com/products/suselinux/downloads/ftp/int_mirrors.html and nothing is acceptable However, I was given this url which was accepted, but every time get an invalid signature warning, which if you tick the don't show again box, still gets shown every time. http://packman.iu-bremen.de/suse/10.1 Also on the online update I ticked all the packages and left it running over night, checked it this morning says all packages installed, but it lied. I've trying to get GPREDICT to build its makefile, this package has been compiled many times on different machines, none running suse,without problems. But now its winging over glib2 and gtk being missing. rpm -q shows them installed. I've rebuilt the rpm database I'm using yast2-2.13.54-5, is the version fscked ? OS=10.1,i586 fresh install from dvd I've just come from using Mandrake since it started, and their urpmi is lovely package for package management, it's pity some of their other packages don't work. That's the reason for the move to Suse, as well as joining a sdr group whos s/w is written on Suse. [SLE] YaST YoU Out of Sync

OS: SuSE 10.0 Pro Recently I experienced a problem with a lock on the /var/lib/rpm/Packages file which was resolved by running "rpm --rebuilddb". In the course of trying various solutions, I manually updated, for example, mysql and acroread to the latest SuSE-supplied versions. For example, acroread is 7.0.8-1.1 but when I run YoU, it still tries to update it. Is there another database somewhere that YoU uses apart from the rpm database? If so, how can I update it so it is back in sync with what is actually installed? [SLE] 10.0 box install forgets the atapi cdrom & only sees the usb-dvd drive

Hi, I seem to have a situation which resembles, but is a variant of the one mentioned in: `10.1 box install forgets DVD' except that in this case the cdrom is forgotten. I installed Suse 10.0 [box] on a machine with both: ide-cdroms and, usb-dvd. The ide cdrom drive [hdc] is recognized by the bios [auto] and fstab as /dev/hdc; the other is a usb dvd drive /dev/sr0. The drives are cdromecorder [plextor] & dvdrecoder [sony]. the entries in fstab are: /dev/hdc /media/cdrom subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8,users 0 0 /dev/sr0 /media/cdrom2 subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8,users 0 0 /dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrecorder subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8,users 0 0 /dev/cdrecorder2 /media/cdrecorder2subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8,users 0 0 I was surprised to note that each drive was treated as two drives: one for cdrecorder [1, 2] and the other as cdrom [1, 2] also that the recorde had the `ro' rather than the expected [by me] rw. I added `users' but the cdrom was already not functional. I installed suse 10.0 using the dvd without any problem except that the system will no longer `see' any media in the cdrom. It will only accept and present media in the dvd. When a cd/dvd is put in the dvd drive it is recognized and offered. When a cd is put in the cd drive nothing happens. I have tried disconnecting the usb-dvd to no avail. The machine becomes a system without a cd or dvd drive. There is no question that suse `sees' both drives in Yast cdrom. I am stumped - why can't suse `see' media in the cdrom = /dev/hdc? Does suse have a problem with two cd drives? Can anybody help? Hi building the makefile for an app, and I'm unable to find a file either on the install dvd or the mirrors. I'm getting "checking for gnomeConf.sh file in /usr/local/lib... not found configure: error: Could not find the gnomeConf.sh file that is generated by gnome-libs install" I've installed the gnome libs and all the -devel files that are remotely like it, but still nothing. Anyone know which rpm to use ? [SLE] monitor settings in yast

Newbie here, sorry if this is offtopic I have been given some old hardware with win98 and a set of suse 8 pro CD's... suse seems to have installed ok The video adaptor is an ATI Rage II pci and recognised ok The 14" CRT monitor seems to be an ESCOM model EM-141LR and is not in the Yast list of monitors, as I have no manual, disk or information about it I selected VESA 800x600 @ 60hz Horiz freq 31 - 37.9 Vert freq 50 - 60 Now each window that displays on the screen has a 2cm strip down the left hand side where the display is steady and readable but the rest of the window is flickering and virtually unreadable Would a later version of suse fix the problem automatically? I have googled for the settings for this old monitor to no avail. Could anyone advise them to me please. Regards Brian Glover

I will try to install Opensuse 10.1 once again. Can someone tell me the correct way to do it. Can I use Zen for the updating the first time or is Yast the best toy. Can I use tiny-nividia-installer to get the NIVIDIA driver for my system. Hi Sorry if this is too much of a newbie question. I've found the locations of the various mirrors, how do I point yast to one of them to download updates etc.? I've found most of the suse functions, its not so dissimilar to the mandriva releases, apart from some bit actually work ! [SLE] Duplicating a directory structure

I need to duplicate a directory structure on a SuSE 10.0 box -- not the files, just the directory tree. I thought this would be pretty simple, using find, but I'm running into big issues because many (as in almost all) of the directories have spaces in their names. For the life of me I can't get the silly thing to put everything where it should be. The current directory structure is something like the following: /tmp/origin /tmp/origin/folder one /tmp/origin/folder one/sub folder one /tmp/origin/folder one/sub folder two /tmp/origin/folder one/sub folder three /tmp/origin/folder one/sub folder three/sub sub folder one /tmp/origin/folder one/sub folder three/sub sub folder two /tmp/origin/folder one/sub folder four /tmp/origin/folder two /tmp/origin/folder two/sub folder one . . . (Suffice it to say that the actual structure is much more complicated, and, well, real. But not essentially different.) What I'm trying to end up with is something like this: /tmp/dest /tmp/dest/folder one /tmp/dest/folder one/sub folder one /tmp/dest/folder one/sub folder two /tmp/dest/folder one/sub folder three /tmp/dest/folder one/sub folder three/sub sub folder one . . . I started off by doing this: `cd /tmp/origin` `find . -type d -print | xargs mkdir {}` which gave me lots of errors like "mkdir folder: file exists" and "mkdir one/sub: file exists". Clearly "folder" and "one/sub" are being seen as distinct file names. Anyone have any thoughts/advice on what I can do to duplicate the structure? I know it's really just a question of quoting/escaping the output of the find command, but for the life of me I can't figure out where to put the quotes!
