[SLE] CUPS and Samba problems
Hello! I have Samsung laser printer, which is connected over USB to PC with Suse 10.0. There was a CD with printer, which also included support for linux, so i`ve installed included LPP (linux printing package) which has added the printer. The test page prints perfectly. Then i set up Samba with intention that the win users could also use printer overt the network. The problem is that when i try to use printer in WinXP i get "access denied" error although the printer is installed over "connect" option in win. I can also browse some samba shared folders. I have added the same user as it is in winxp to linux and also samba. What I am forgeting? Thanks for the hints. Scorpy

There is a selection in the XP/2K printer configuration which will say something like "connect to network printer using IPP" or maybe "connect to network printer using Unix", or something similar. Connect to port 631 on the Linux system. The default CUPS configuration in SuSELinux should allow you to connect to the printer without any extra work. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

If you have [print$] defined try commenting it out and see if the problem goes away. The following is what I found works regarding Cups & Samba [global] printing = cups printcap name = cups printcap cache time = 750 cups options = raw [printers] comment = All Printers path = /var/tmp printable = Yes create mask = 0600 browseable = No use client driver = Yes #[print$] # comment = Printer Drivers # path = /var/lib/samba/drivers # write list = @ntadmin root # force group = ntadmin # create mask = 0664 # directory mask = 0775 -- Regards, Graham Smith -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Why are you using Samba? XP can access CUPS printers directly. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
