[SLE] missing the mount for a Creative Zen micro

Hi, When I pluggin a creative zen (using usb 2.0) I can access it using kzenexplorer but it does not seem to be mountable in any other way. I am using a pretty standard 10.1 installation on an x86 PC. It seems that I may be missing some configuration for hal/udev but I do not know what exactly. [SLE] update-status eats CPU

Hello all: This mornig I realized computer slowdown and unusual hard disk activity. Running top showed that there is a process called "update-status" that uses high percentage of CPU and may cause the slowdown: 10289 root 18 0 70592 34m 6592 R 81.7 13.7 0:33.13 update-status 10453 root 25 0 71836 35m 6592 R 93.1 14.2 0:35.12 update-status 10453 root 19 0 78068 41m 6592 R 92.3 16.7 0:48.12 update-status 10453 root 19 0 80316 43m 6592 R 88.3 17.5 0:53.25 update-status If this process is killed, another one with another ID is generated. Is this a system program or does belong to some other program? And how can I disable it? Everyone knows what is meant. Pitty that you don't care. I personaly believe that looking as one and that means writing the name of what you represent, is importand. To me this falls under communications. (Others might call it Marketing or Corporate Identity, wich to me *is* communication.) It seems to be a running issue that communication is not that good with SUSE/openSUSE. Technically you are the best. Communication is lacking enormously. Using SuSE instead of SUSE is just a very small part of it. Unfortunatly this communications problem is with us since the beginning of openSUSE.org. I have no idea who should be handeling communications to the outside (openSUSE) world, but I think that function should be re-evaluated, if it exists at all. It looks as if almost all communication is done afterwards by a technical person as a best effort. Hreat of that person doing it. It would just be better if many (not all) commications where done earlier or were done at all. Too many things have happend where afterwards it was said: Oh, and we did such and such. Or information was confusing or only given after asking for it. Understand that I am not dissing the person who might be doing it right now. I am saying that the function should be re-evealuated and changed. This *could* mean: More time for communication. More feedback from technical people. More backup from management. More pro-active information. Or change to whatever is lacking at the moment so that communications becomes something important and functional. Due to the fact that most information will be coming from within SUSE and Novell, it must be an emplyee. [SLE] 10.1, LVM2, and inaccessible snapshot-related logical volumes

So, I'm working on setting up a system that's going to run a series of Xen virtual machines. Each of these virtual machines are going to be basically identical, with only slight differences in a specific application for testing. Rather than duplicate the initial setup in whole, I created it as a logical volume, and created a second as a snapshot of the first, with a couple of gigs of wiggle room. These partitions, at the time of creation, were addressable as /dev/xen/vm1 and /dev/xen/vm2 (alternately, /dev/mapper/xen-vm1 and /dev/mapper/xen-vm2). However, after doing a reboot of the host machine, the partitions are no longer addressable via the /dev/<vol group name>/<logical volume name> syntax. They're only available as /dev/dm-1 and /dev/dm-2 `ls -altr /dev/xen/` shows that the device files for vm1 and vm2 do not exist. The device files for my other logical volumes, which are not snapshots, do exist. Doing `lvscan` shows this: ACTIVE '/dev/xen/vm0' [20.00 GB] inherit inactive Original '/dev/xen/vm1' [20.00 GB] inherit inactive Snapshot '/dev/xen/vm2' [2.90 GB] inherit ACTIVE '/dev/xen/vm3' [20.00 GB] inherit So, I'm assuming that the "inactive" state is somehow related to the device files being missing; and that the inactive state is somehow related to the snapshot-nature of the partitions. Can anyone point me to what I need to do to get those device files back? (Though I agree that it could be done, I don't really consider manual creation of the files to be a good option; I'm going to be creating and destroying virtual machines on this box quite often, and need the management tools to be working.) On a side note: I _can_ mount these partitions, read data from them, etc, as /dev/dm-1 and the like. The problem with that is that the device files don't necessarily refer to the same partition all the time. If you have dm-1..dm-6, and delete dm-2, then dm-3..dm-6 slide up one and become dm-2..dm-5. [SLE] Suse 10.1 and qt3-non-mt libraries ?

I need libqt.so.3 to run a commercial application on Suse 10.1. I see in the Suse 9.x series that libqt.so.3 was contained in qt3-non-mt-3.3.x RPMs. But qt3-non-mt... is not included in the 10.1 distribution. How can I get the needed backward compatibility? Can one copy the libqt.so.x library(s) from a 9.3 installation? There seems to be no naming conflict. Does anyone know if there is a version of the ksh shell available for Suse 10.0? I found a version for 9.3 on one the mirrors. Will this one work under 10.0?

If you can not find the script, then do this. Open a xterm when you are active, write a background script that will wake up , kill any process running locate and/or find, and go back to sleep for a period of time (10 minutes). When you dont need the console, you then kill your script and let your SuSE complete that task.
