problem to mount usb pendrive

Hello: The system is OSS 10.0 i386. I have problems to mount some usb pendrives, some work fine. The message I get when I want to mount is: Could not mount device. The reported error was: mount: special device /dev/sda1 does not exist However other pendrives are recognized correctly. May be important that my computer has only USB 1.0 controller. Distributing OpenSUSE vmware image containing non GPLed packages

Hi list, I'm currently thinking of a way to make OpenSUSE available to much more audience (specially windows users). My target is to attract more users and developers to Linux platform (making it easy for them to make the switch). Upon testing many distros, I found that SUSE has the most windows like experience to Windows users PLUS a very intuitive admin interface for linux power users. The easiest way is to distribute it within a Computer magazine that all PC users can access. I thought of three approached to accompish this tasks (given that I have only one CD to include): 1- One CD with just necessary packages to start with (SLICK does a good job in this) [This way will bring many hassles to windows user [installation with windows- hardware not detected - modems support,...etc] 2- Make a live CD for OpenSUSE [I found only a DVD version of it + I Found that you can use it as a READ ONLY [not like debizn based Live CDs]] 3- Make a vmware image of OpenSUSE with packages relevant to audience. [This approach will eliminate HW support, modem support [vmware can use NATing to hadle this], installation support] There is some packages that essential to Windows user but I don't know what is the obligation if I included them within the vmware image namely: - RealPlayer - Acrobat Reader - Flash - Java - All dependednt parts on them. Of course one can update from yast repositories once installed but Internet Connectivity will not be available to some users. mouse freezes in 10.0

Hello all: Recently I experienced frequent mouse freezes in suse 10.0 i386. I've never before had this problem in any other suse versions (from 9.0 on). The mouse stops working but every other things continue to work. How could I trace the origin of this behavior and possibly fix it? Linux Tree

Does anyone know where I can find an online diagram of the complete opensuse Linux Directory tree please. I need to present some very basic selfrun online training to a windows group about the linux Directory Structure for preparation to cut them over in April and can't find one anywhere. I've at least talked them into using opensuse to start with, thanks to the UK Linux Format bringing out a "5cd Special Issue" plus Novell being involved with SuSE. thanks in advance scsijon

kernel in verbose mode ??

Hy people i was wondering if there is a way to set the kernel in verbose mode so it spits out a lot of info to the kern.log file ??, perhaps a sysctl command? a module?. and another question is, is there a way to audit filesystems with kernel tools ?? or do i need extra soft? which one? Thnx!!

Problems after update

Hi. I would update my SuSE 10.0 yesterday with Yast. It seemed to work ok. I have modified Yast per the instruction "Update all package versions on your suse linux 10.0 machine" found on the Novell site. It has worked fine, and for instance it has updated my KDE excellent. After the updae yesterday I was told to reboot, due to get the new kernel effective. I did it, and then the problem occurred. I cannot remember quite ok, what happened, but I decided to boot with my DVD, to be able to repair the installation. Now it can boot ok again. But it starts up as its in runlevel runlevel 3 -not the X-. Running Yast I can see, that the runlevel is set to 5. I'm sure the problem is to be found in the X. Then I tried a startx from both root and user. suse 10.0 i386 DVD from DL DVD

Hello: I would like to create an i386 DVD from the official 10.0 DL DVD. I have copied all the files to my hard disk from the DL DVD. I removed the unnecessary language packs. My question is: In the 'boot' directory there are these files: rescue rescue64 root root64 root.fonts root64.fonts I suppose that the files rescue64, root64, root64.fonts are needed only for the x86_64 installation but not sure. Can these files be safely removed? I'm sure some really geeky person is going to come in here and mention vi or vim or emacs... ...I pretty much use Kate. I wasn't sure if you were referring to HTML only pages, HTML with CSS, PHP, Perl, Python, JSP, or XML. (Designing web pages can be confusing after awhile.) ...you see, Kate handles syntax highlighting for all the above. I occasionally will load a page in NVu to see how it is laid out but almost always go back to Kate for further development. On the Wintendo side, I pretty much stick with either HTML-Kit or TextPad. Desktop expiry

I rub SUSE-10 OSS and recently received an email from Novell saying that my licence for the Novell Desktop 9 is to expire on Feb 16th and I should order if I wish to continue using. To best of my knowledge I do not use any such desktop unless it is in the SUSE-10 product. Can anyone comment please?
