[SLE] mssql extension and PHP

Hello, We're running a web based application on a Suse Linux 10.0 machine that is planned to use data on a Microsoft SQL 2000 server. I installed FreeTDS on linux and thanks to that can see data on the MS SQL 2000 server. Now to let the application use the function I need to compile PHP with the option -with mssql. And there I, a bit of linux newby, have a problem. How do I recompile PHP to add the mssql option but keep the existing options and extensions of the installed php (4.4.0) that is running ? I don't know with what compile options it was installed. Thanks for your help. Peter Plasmans.

SPAM: Courier-imap & MySQL

Hi, Is there a 'standard' rpm for courier-imap to authenticate via MySQL ? Google didn't find it for me. There are for LDAP and userdb. It's not a big problem because I can make my own, although it's not specific for Suse and after installation it needs some tweeking. But when Suse updates courier-imap I will have to do this all again. Some years ago, Postfix also didn't come with MySQL support, now it has, so I hope courier-imap will eventually also have MySQL support. P.S. I'm using Suse10.1. SPAM: DNS new host

I have added to the /var/lib/named/example.com a new host as CNAME (copied www and renamed it to the new host name) I have changed the serial number to the current date. I use splitted dns for internal and external view, and have therefore edit CNAME also for the internal zone file /etc/rc.d/named restart host newhost.example.com (on local host) brings me the result host newhost.example.com dns.hinet.net brings me: Using domain server: Name: dns.hinet.net Address: 168.95.1.1#53 Aliases: Host newhost.example.com not found: 3(NXDOMAIN) What have I forgotten? Cleaning up

Since v10.1 was released the kernel has now been upgraded 3 times (...16.13-4 > ...16.21-0.13 > ...16.21-0.21 > ...16.21-0.25). This has created 'duplicated' files in /boot and in /usr/src for the replaced kernels, files like System.map, initrd, symsets, etc. All these redundant files add up to a bit of disk space. May I assume that it is safe to delete all these 'dups' and leave only the files relating to the latest kernel and the previous version of the kernel (for which grub has an entry)? If I install alpha 5, or beta 1, will the online update work? Will it work all the way to installing the final release? I mean, If I install alpha 5, and do the online updates (say, weekly) will I eventually have the GM installed automatically?

I have an ASUS A6Tc with Turion Dual Core 64-bit processor. Not running the xen kernel, both the 8762 and 8774 Nvidia drivers work. Running the Xen kernel (2.6.16.21-25), added the patch to the 8762 driver, but it does not work, that is, itwill not go into X. It cannot find screen for display 0.0. (Works on my desktop with Athlon Dual core 64-bit processor with Nvidia 5700 card) as does not the 8774 driver. It does work with the _nv_ driver. Does anyone have the7300 working with Xen and if so, any suggestions on how to get it towork? Art

x server to use a specific ip with computer with many ip addresses

Hi can anybody clue me in here....? (reposting as it seemed to have not got posted) Imagine a machine with some real network cards (more than one), and fake (aliased) ip addresses, all work but having setup this I want to change the default x server's ip and use another instead having investigated sysconfig/googled it is easy to set up access control for x, but when i used the -from 1.2.3.4. command for xdm suse 9.2 decided to ignore it, gateway wise xdm choose the most direct route out hop wise. but an examination of /etc/X11 conf files seems to make seting x to use a specific ip address rather than another a troublesome affair. http://www.xfree86.org/current/Xserver.1.html#toc6 Can anybody point me to some wise hints since what i tried so far should work but somehow is being ignored Its not a security issue but it must be possible. Can anybody help/suggest/hint ? at what i'm failing to do here.

scigraphica problem

Hello all: I am using suse linux 10.1 I would like to use scigraphica for making graphical data plots. I have installed guru's version: libscigraphica-devel-2.1.1-2.guru.suse101 libscigraphica-debuginfo-2.1.1-2.guru.suse101 scigraphica-2.1.0-1.guru.suse101 scigraphica-debuginfo-2.1.0-1.guru.suse101 libscigraphica-2.1.1-2.guru.suse101 I have set the SG_PLUGIN_PATH to: /opt/gnome/lib/scigraphica/2.1.0/plugins:/usr/lib/scigraphica/ 2.1.0/plugins So I can see the menus now. (Not seeing the menus was my first problem.) I can start scigraphica, edit worksheet data and I can open the plot window. But when I double click on the icon in the left upper corner (layer icon?) scigraphica quits with this message: "Segmentation fault. Sorry, failed to rescue the project" The scigraphica documentation is very poor and the user-list seems to be quite inactive. Google did not give any usable result either. If one has experience with scigraphica or was able to run this program on suse 10.1, please tell me how I could fix this problem. [opensuse] Need help with install issue

Hello, I am trying to install OpenSuse on a new system, and everything seems perfect up to the very end, when I have configured the system and setup my user account. The system tells me it is time to restart the system and then I will be able to login and begin using linux. I click ok, and then the monitor flickered and went black, as what I assume is the welcome sound tried to play but was cut short. Then the hard drive light flickers occasionally, and the monitor power light flashes from amber to green, which I've neve seen before. After waiting for 20 minutes, I did a reboot via the reset button, and then the computer loads the bios and as soon as it tries to boot from the HD, all I get is a single beep and then the system hangs. I tried doing the automated repair option from the linux disk, but it never fixes the problem. I went through the entire installation process again, and the same result, when it is time to reboot and login, the system basically dies- the only difference is that the welcome sound didn't try to play after the second install. My system is only a month old, an Asus motherboard with a new AMD MX2 4200 processor, and a new Nvidia graphics card (4700, with 512 megs). I have 1 gig of ram, and was running WinXp Pro successfully- but now it won't boot either. I tried fixing the MBR in the Windows repair mode, but it did nothing I can detect. My next guess is that I will have to edit the boot.ini file, but I read about the grub file as well, and I'm wondering which takes priority during the initial boot phase. I am brand new to Linux (probably obvious), and need to figure out how to have a succesful dual-boot system with WinXP and Linux. However, I did all this right before leaving town for a conference, and it will be a couple of days before I get back home and can try anything. I am hoping that someone can point me to some good web resources I can study if nobody has an immediate answer. Please help, and thank you in advance!
