[opensuse] Just a bit of feedback for those outside the US where Hardware is relatively cheap.

The cost of hardware outside the US is very expensive. For example If I order a Dell P4 HT 3.2GHz with 1 GIG of RAM and say 80GB HDD this would cost aprox AUD1,500.00 or USD2,112.00 and 1 stick of 1GB DDR2 RAM AUD 169.00 USD 238.00 and HDD 200GB SATA AUD119.00 USD 167.00. I send this out just so you know the sorts of costs NEW or upgrading a PC is a very expensive proposition. A Business needing to upgrade hardware so that VISTA will perform is outrageous as you can see. This is why the AU Market is very interested in Linux now as current hardware with Linux installed is a very good proposition for a lot of medium to large businesses. Sound problem with BETA1

hi all ! just installed openSUSE 10.2 BETA1, and already got serious sound problems.... more correctly I have no sound at all, but the driver reports it's OK.... how to diagnose sound problems deeper ? (I just dont want to open stupid bug saying "sound doesn't works")

in the case of vmware workstation, you have to run vmware-config.pl after a kernel update. Is there an equivalent update process for cisco vpn client software? running suse 10.0 Peter

[opensuse] Beta1 update problem

Every time I open it up to do an update, it shows me a whole bunch of updates, yet downloading and installing them does not seem to work. x server problem

Hello guys, I am having a bit of a problem getting a proper graphical session on an IBM desktop with an LCD monitor. [opensuse] automount USB HD with NTFS RW in 10.1?

Hi, when plugging in a USB HD with NTFS it is automatically mounted. And I have read access as user. But writing failes, even for root? Is this a general thing in openSuse 10.1? Where can I change this behavior? (I have already seen in different places that this is not a gould idea.) I have googled around a few hours but couldn't find the right thing.... Any tips / hints are very welcome. All, I'm looking for European hosting providers that offer up-to-date openSUSE systems - that is 10.0 or 10.1. I've got Hetzner and Easyspeedy on my list so far, but as we've just been f******d over royally by our current hosting provider, I need some alternatives. "SKIPPED: postgresql-52896-" Can anyone tell me where this message is coming from and what it means? It appears every night at 20:05. It's generated in the "-*/15 * * * * root test -x /usr/lib/cron/run-crons && /usr/lib/cron/run-crons >/dev/null 2>&1" which is automatically installed in crontab but I can't trace though to find its source. After that line in crontab, I have MAILTO="" which stops the jobs I've added from telling me they've fired off but I'd like to keep the 'standard installation' as-is. TIA John
