xine output problems

Hi, If I have (i) packman's libxine1; (ii) guru's amarok/amarok-xine, and (iii) no xine-lib installed, then why does amarok give me this error: xine was unable to initialize any audio drivers. ....when I try to play anything at all. Even a nice ogg from gnu.org. [opensuse] suse 10.1 disk detection and raid partitioning

greetz this relates to my previous posts to which i havent heard much yet :/ im trying to install opensuse 10.1 on my newly built system msi k8n diamond amd 3500 1gb 1x maxtor ide 60gb 6l060j3 hda 1x maxtor ide 61gb 96147u8 hdd 4x maxtor sata 160gb 6L160m0 sda/sdb/sdc/sdd now i want to raid the first two disks (ide) as the following 1gb /boot md0 ext2 30gb / md1 reiserfs 2gb / md2 swap (i have my own reasons on why i want to partition so, so no need to quote on that :) the sata drives are to be in a raid5 md3 (xfs) now when opensuse 10.1 attempts to detect the hard drives, it claims that the ide disks and second sata disk are presented by the bios as being in configured for fake raid, now this is not true as i have disabled all raid related refferences from the bios. /dev/hda /dev/hdd /dev/hdc what could be causing that and any ideas on how it could be fixed? i tried to continue, and i was able to successfully install suse 10.1 on single ide disks without raid without any probs, both ide disks worked fine. but when i try to configure software raid (from linux) and to use the ide disks. after the first boot, the os doesnt boot, "no operating system found" any ideas what is causing this? i have used the same configuration setup a number of times on vmware without any probs, but now when attempting to apply the tested configurations on vmware on the actual hardware, it fails. hoping someone could enlighted. -- Regards -RP- ___________________________ If computers were made in heaven, would they be perfect? ___________________________

I do not know what happened to gmail, when I hit repy to a message from the list the replies were going to suse-linux-e(a)suse.com, now when I hit reply they are going to the named sender. KDE Remote Desktop (VNC) troubles

Dear all, I cannot connect to a remote server via KDE Remote Desktop Connection anymore. When trying, I got an error: Connection failed, server does not accept new connections On a server there is: - no krfb processes - netstat -anp | grep 590 returns: tcp 0 0 :::5900 :::* LISTEN 2030/kdeinit: kded therefore someone is waiting for connection - this is SuSE 9.0 Is there a way to restart KDE's VNC on this server without restarting KDE completely? [opensuse] Wrorking in Opensuse projects

Hello, I am using SuSe linux since last 4 years ,And i simply love it,Now i want to work on some projects ,i tried the opensuse wiki but couldnt find much information how to begin except that you need to use mailing list and irc.I 'm studying in final year computer enggineering in india .Also i do know c/c++/java and shell scripting ,if any one could just let me know where to begin it would be of great help.. Win list?

Is there a list like this for Win XP? Google was not helpful. (I'm having trouble recognizing hard drives. Without fdisk, I don't know how to find hard drives. BIOS knows they're there.) Suse is on the "C" drive in a separate partition, HDA something, I guess, but I don't know if that helps. I can't use it to access the 'net, since the Broadcom ethernet adapter on the MOBO is not recognized in Suse 10.0. (I think it worked in earlier versions. Boo hoo.) I have 9.3 on another machine, which works well, except I haven't been able to get my Brother HL-2040 to work. Anyone who has done so, please write. --doug

Urgent!! need to restore deleted files (EXT3)

Hi I've an old server with a single SCSI disk which a disgruntled techie has rm -Rf * from the root of the drive. The backup has been trashed too. Is there any way to restore not only the files but the directory tree? Googling I read that doing this on the ext3 FS is impossible yet I've seen various Windows based pieces of software that claim to be able to restore no idea why they run on Windows and not Linux though?! What's the chances of a resoration and is there something that I can run under Linux that will do it? Cheers Matthew
