There are generally quite a few people on this list that watch a thread with interest with no need to comment, so replying to the list for that is good. However if I ask a question and see a reply directly to me, as well as the list, I know it's specifically towards my question which I like as it's easier to spot these in the middle of the 100+ e-mails per day I receive on this list. It's also nice because if you feel a reply is warranted, but not suitable to the whole list, you have the option of only replying to the poster directly, thus reducing the amount of replies less relevent to the whole list. Deleting 1 additional e-mail is really not much effort. I think at the end of the day it's the list manager's descision. There are many list 'standards' that people will always find annoying, such as the 'reply to all' and 'top or bottom post' but ultimately I find that 'just getting on with it' is the best policy, and not adding something else to worry about in your life is generally a better, and less stressful way of going about day-to-day affairs. Houghi: I like the idea of makeSUSEcd since ONE CD is better than one DVD (in my simple way of thinking). Then, for specific packages beyond the one CD, we can have an FTP site for downloading them as needed via yast. what do you think? SSI enabled in default Apache2 conf?

Hi All, OK, now I'm feeling stupid... All I want are basic server side includes enabled in Apache2 on localhost. I've read and re-read pg. 503 of the 9.3 Admin guide and scoured what I believe are the appropriate .conf files. I've been through the sysconfig editor in YaST and searched the archives (I *know* this question has been answered before)... to no avail. Why are the .shtml pages I've placed in /~carlh (../carlh/public_html) displaying code (as in opening a text file) instead of rendering the expected pages? May I please get a pointer (can be accompanied by the appropriate thump on the head, if necessary) :-) - Carl

Display problems in new 9.3

I am lost: new 9.3 install. I could not download a usable copy of DVD iso so downloaded and used CD's instead. This forced me to us IA32 system on AMD IA64 system, simly discounting warnings about this. System runs, more or less. Display repeatedly goes out (window completely obscured with random colors, can mouse an icon over it sometimes and get some proper display in the wake of the movement, but quickly degrades again) after a few to several minutes. I tried using YAST/YOU to update nvidia driver, same results, also ran nvidia driver by hand (needs IA32 driver), same results. Any other suggestions? I have tried running both at max resolution and a lower one with same results. Richard

Houghi: this is what I am after. I only need a minimal installation with minimum Graphic. I am trying to make it all fit into one CD (not DVD). Most of our machines are CD only. The DVD full content is copied into an FTP server just in case packages needed and not in the CD can be installed. I would love to make a complete new instalation in such a way that you only need the first CD for an instalation. I will see how far I will get with that and how workable it is. Will be a while before I will be finisched with that. If that is done, I will look what pages to have moved so you can have a working KDE on one CD. All needs to be still bootable as CD 1, so no extra CD is needed for those who are happy with minimal stuff. When you're done, run create_package_descr as described in that thread to update YaST package descriptions list. Creating the ISO image is also explained there. Editing the selections is easy: just open suse/setup/descr/something.sel and add/remove the package names from the list. If you don't know in which file a package might be, just use KFind or something like that. When it shows the list of results ignore "packages.*" and just take a look at "*.sel" if someone matches. You may also create/remove new selection files; in that case edit "suse/setup/descr/selections" and add/remove the file name (without path) of the selection file. The files are very self-descriptive so I think you won't need further explanation, but in case of doubt just ask. After you've made the final ISO image, you should attach an MD5 sum to it so that media check works properly. SLES9: netgroup NIS map and /etc/exports

Hallo list, is anyone using a netgroup NIS map in /etc/exports? I tried on nfssrv: --- cat netgroup nfshosts (locomo.domain.de,,) --- cat exports /san/shares/nfs.d @nfshosts(rw,sync,insecure) Then host locomo ist not allowed to mount nfssrv:/san/shares/nfs.d with this line in /var/log/messages: rpc.mountd: refused mount request from locomo.domain.de for /san/shares/nfs.d (/): not exported A "showmount -e nfssrv" gives /san/shares/nfs.d @dnfshosts If I use the hostname instead of the netgroup in /etc/exports: --- cat exports /san/shares/nfs.d locomo.domain.de(rw,sync,insecure) locomo is allowed to mount nfs.d . Both server and client are in the same DNS domain and in the same NIS domain, DNS is working fine forward and reverse.
