Amarok - Musicbrainz tagging doesn't work on ogg files

Hi all. I have been succesfully using amarok for tagging my mp3 files, but it refuses to work on .ogg. The first time i try to tag an .ogg file, it behaves as if it were generating the digital fingerprint for the song, but then it fails saying that there is no information available for that song at MusicBrainz (even for very, very well known songs!) Then, if i try to tag the file again(doesn't matter ifi try to tag that same song or another one), it fails immediately (ie. without even trying to generate the fingerprint) and states that there's no info for that file at MB. Anyone has any ideas of what could be happening? Thank you all, Anderson

cvs with xinetd on Suse 8.2

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me with this problem.. I'm setting up cvs pserver (a customer requested it so no I cannot use subversion ;-)) on a suse 8.2 server with xinetd and it works, so thats the good news, the bad news: I want it to work with tcpd so I can make the setup more secure but when I try that I cannot login to the cvs server, and I get this in my /var/log/messages Jun 23 10:28:07 servername tcpd[30218]: connect from 1.2.3.4 (1.2.3.4) Jun 23 10:28:38 servername last message repeated 31711 times This is my working /etc/xinetd.d/cvs without tcpd: service cvspserver { socket_type = stream protocol = tcp wait = no user = cvs group = cvs server = /usr/bin/cvs server_args = -f --allow-root=/usr/local/cvsroot pserver } This is the "problem" /etc/xinetd.d/cvs { socket_type = stream protocol = tcp wait = no user = cvs group = cvs server = /usr/sbin/tcpd server_args = /usr/bin/cvs -f --allow-root=/usr/local/cvsroot pserver } regards Chantal

Command Line Packet Sniffer

MPlayer Plugin hangs

I installed the MPlayer plugin so I could play WM in Firefox. However, when it starts, it seems to load ok, but stops and says "buffering 0%". Has anybody got this working in 9.2 ?

9.3 won't install on Athlon64 with SATA

Very frustrating. SuSE 9.3 is far too slow on my old machine (PentiumII-500) so I purchased an Athlon64 machine (Asus A8V-E motherboard, SATA hard drive, blue trim, pretty lights, ... ) Cannot install SuSE 9.3 from the DVD or CD media). General problem seems to be "locating info file" and a hang. Googling suggests problems with SATA and AMD64 combination. I tried disabling SATA mode, but get a non-helpful "Installation error". Novell's site is hopeless. SuSE only talks about SATA for 9.0. Any suggestions? Paul Alfille

pointing stick on dell latitude d600

Hi, after all I installed successfully 9.3 on this machine. Now the problem I have is, that during the install both the touchpad and the stick (the nice thing between the keys on the keyboard) were working, and I was able to use both to move the mouse pointer. But then, after the install, on the first login, the plugger discovered the "right" type of the device - ALPS DualPoint TouchPad - asked for root password to configure it. And after this "configuration" the stick works no more, as well as its buttons. The touchpad itself and its buttons are OK. As I prefer to use the stick, does anyone know a solution for this problem? I have found a similar post on the suse forums for 9.2, but no solution. Cheers Sunny

Boosting performance

I'm running SuSE 9.2 on a Proliant DL380, was working fine, only had problems copy and entire tree from one FS to another (it seems to hang). The backup to tape was during 3 hours. The changes made (/boot/grub/menu.lst): * Deleted the "desktop" kernel parameter * Changed the "elevator" kernel parameter from "as" to "cfq" Now, the backups takes 1h 40 min to finish, any comments? Transfer mail via disk

How to remove panel message on Gnome Startup SuSe 9.3?

hello from Adam I have been running SuSE 9.3 from 9.2 and usually run Gnome with Metacity. When the panels come up, I keep getting "I've have detected a panel already running, and will not exit" box with a don't enter icon. Hey Group; Whom ever suggested the Gnome program "glabels". Thanks! I downloaded it compiled it and it works great. One question is on a CD label with two labels per sheet, how do you get it to do "Disc 1 of 2" and on the other label "Disc 2 of 2". Kmenu Icons Too Big

Hi! I use SuSE 9.3 (kde 3.4.0), and on my main user, the icons on the kmenu are unreasonably large. On root or other users, the icons are normal size, but on my account, they are too large. How do I change this? Kcontrol didn't have a module that fixed this (the appearence&themes->icons/advanced didn't help). Thanks! -Steven

Loading modules at boot

Where does one specify additional modules to load at boot. Specifically I want my SCSI driver loaded at boot. Suse support talks about modifying a line in rc.config but I can't find that file and suspect that things have moved on since that was written. Scott

Suse 9.3 or kde problem with closing lid on IBM Thinkpads

I just installed 9.3 and it's great, but I have a Thinkpad X40 which has a problem with the screen. If I close the lid and then open it again, I get about 5% of garbage on the top of the screen. It then offsets the mouse location so I have to click about 5% higher than the actual button. Anyone know how to fix this? I've been running sax2 and just testing the config to reset the screen, but I'd like to not have to do this. Also, I set the action for closing the lid in the thinkpad config to not do anything (turned off suspend). Thanks to anyone who can help... Khanh Tran Network Operations Sarah Lawrence College

SuSE9.3 ftp install?

Maybe a really dumb question... is it actually released now? I noticed a huge number of files appear on the ftp site in the last couple days... I've also found this... ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.3/iso/ which has a DVD eval iso, and a 5 disk CD set. Is the CD set the full iso's of the 9.3 release? There's no handy dandy readme laying about to make it clear what's up with those files. C.

Moveing SuSE 9.2 from IDE to SCSI

Hello guys... I got already SuSE 9.3 installed at /dev/hda but I need to move it to /dev/scd I know that I can move them by using dd, but, what else do I may need to change ? 1) Grub ? Which config files ? Should I do any other stuff rather than modify the new path at the Config files ? 2) FSTAB ? 3) Others ? When I put the memory stick in the usb port on one, within a few seconds it recognizes the memory stick and I can use it. This is an older pc running a 233meg intel cpu. When I put the memory stick in the other, it may have to keep trying all night to access it. The light in the memory stick keeps blinking showing it is trying to access it. Then again the next time the light in the memory stick may turn right off and the pc never recognize it. This pc is a late model abit running a 2.4 gig cpu. Cups users who need to get .ps file from .dvi?

The dvi2ps (which converts TeX .dvi files to postscript .ps files) is in the package lpdfilter for SuSE 9.3: http://www.novell.com/products/linuxpackages/professional/lpdfilter.html But if you have cups, you can not install lpdfilter because it conficts with cups, cups-SUSE-ppds-dat, and cups-drivers-stp. According to yast2. setting multiple user id to 0 (zero) is bad ! Why?

Greetings, Friends, I am in a situation with my one clients who use - (Yes that one again!!), uucp. Now their previous techies set all the user id's for the system to 0 (zero) Oh! and all the GID's as well. Now I have come in and had to fix this, but I get resistance. I have only one good reason why not to right now, with uucp on one site all the files are transfered but not removed from the queue, only when I set the user id to 14 (IIRC) and the GID to 512, and of course changed all the on the relevant configs and files, would it clean the remote queue. This reason however has been flawed as we have other sites that work properly with all the UID's and GID's set to 0 (zero). I need more reasons, explaining how this affects the system integrity, and functionality, the trick here is they don't give two hoots about the security aspect. So to win my case professionally and cleverly, I ask for real opinions and reasons. Azureus UDP port 6881

I am trying to run Azureus, and I got a new message saying I need to open UDP port 6881 for this to work correctly. Is this a good idea ? If so, how do I enable port 6881 ? The dri module was not listed here (a bug in sax2? ), but I have added it, although it did not changed anything. And of course, I have checked ¨3D support enabled¨ in sax2 when configured X. Launching CC Generals loads CPU to 100%, there is a sound (sometimes distorted), but graphic redraw is hell slow, what made me think that hardware 3D acceleration do not work.
