#pico /etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2 find: FW_SERVICES_EXT_UDP="" yout conf should be something like this : FW_SERVICES_EXT_UDP="6881" then restart the firewall. #rcSuSEfirewall2 restart -- Cristian Rodriguez. edit /etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2 (You'll need to be root) Find this section and add 6881 # Which UDP services _on the firewall_ should be accessible from # untrusted networks? # # see comments for FW_SERVICES_EXT_TCP # # Example: "53" # FW_SERVICES_EXT_UDP="6881 ipp netbios-ns" You'll need to restart the firewall for changes to take effect (as root) SuSEfirewall2 stop then SuSEfirewall2 start fx

You have a problem based on the version of the JVM 1.4.2. If you run a older version of Java, it will run without problems. Use 1.4.2 and it breaks more often than you would like. It is up to you what you want to do. I suggest getting in contact with the original architects before the Federal hammer comes down so they can stabilise the code on 1.4.2. Good luck. I'm not sure what you mean by "original architects". All I want to do is install and run Azureus, I'm not a coder. here is my info on java, I don't have a JVM installed, I'm not sure what that is! linux:/var/log # rpm -qa|grep -i java gcc-java-3.3.5-5 openofficeorg-javafilter-1.9.104-1 java-1_4_2-sun-1.4.2.08-0.1 java-1_4_2-sun-plugin-1.4.2.08-0.1 linux:/var/log # if 1.4.2_sun java is no good, what should I install, and where would I get it? -- Paul Cartwright Registered Linux user # 367800 X-Request-PGP: http://home.comcast.net/~p.cartwright/wsb/key.asc

Which version of Azureus are you trying to run? Have you actually looked at the Azureus website (http://azureus.sourceforge.net)? The latest versions (2.3.0.2, 2.3.0.4) require the latest Sun Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0. On the Azureus website you will find detailed requirements, installation instructions and links to download the required JRE as a torrent or alternatively from the java.sun.com website. I have done it two weeks ago on my old SuSE 8.2 box, it isn't that hard. Regards, -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. Bogotá, D.C. - Colombia http://www.noemasol.com

I also had a nice working java version, before all this started. I'm really getting tired of updated things because something breaks, when it wasn't even my own doing. -- Paul Cartwright Registered Linux user # 367800 X-Request-PGP: http://home.comcast.net/~p.cartwright/wsb/key.asc

I haven't been using Azureus long enough to know if it forces an update on the user, or if you as a user are actually presented with a choice to update your installed version or not to do so. It seems though as if your updated version required JRE 1.5.0; at least that is what I can gather from the website.

That's why I usually check the available documentation before doing an update or accepting any automated update from within any application. I wish to stay in control and make informed choices. Now, JRE 1.5 IMHO is a big step forward in terms of performance and I feel it is worth the effort. I have both JDK 1.4.2 and 1.5.0 installed on my machine; still the the JAVA_HOME environment variable points to the newer version. Now, if you really care about using the most recent Azureus, you should give the newer Java a try. It's your choice, you are in control. -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. no, I'm not really in control :) I tried to do the update, but the local thunderstorms nocked out my network connection, when I was only 38% done... and it took 30 minutes to get that far! -- Paul Cartwright Registered Linux user # 367800 X-Request-PGP: http://home.comcast.net/~p.cartwright/wsb/key.asc

It's the way bittorrent works; you take some, you give some. Leeching is (severely) penalized by a much lower download speed.
If so, how do I enable port 6881 ?
If you have a (xDSL) modem with NAT you have to forward 6881 TCP & UDP from 0.0.0.0 to your inside IP address, and, as you guessed, let traffic in through the firewall.
Under YaST firewall, I can't find any config area to add ports.
