bestcrypt init cript - strange behavior

Dear list members: I have the following problem using bestcrypt 1.5-x (1.5-7, 1.5-10, 1.5- 11) on SuSE 9.2 (2.6.8-24.11-default, bash-3.0-8.2). After running the '/ etc/init.d/bcrypt start' script I have /dev/bcrypt* files with these permissions: brw------- 1 root root 188, 0 2005-03-02 13:59 /dev/bcrypt0 brw------- 1 root root 188, 1 2005-03-02 13:59 /dev/bcrypt1 etc. The mknod command in the script is: for (( x=0 ; x<16 ; x++)) ; do mknod -m 666 /dev/bcrypt$x b $MAJOR $(( MINOR+x )) ; done According to this, I think the permissions should be: brw-rw-rw- 1 root root 188, 0 2005-03-02 14:37 /dev/bcrypt0 brw-rw-rw- 1 root root 188, 1 2005-03-02 14:37 /dev/bcrypt1 etc. What really strange is that if I run the script once more, the permissions are corrected. What is going on here? Anybody has a clue? On Suse 9.1 I had no this problem. Any help appreciated, IG

HP NetRAID

Hi, I am trying to stall suse 9.0 on the HP server machine which is provided with HP NetRAID. I set up scsi disks as RAID "0". Then at the beginning of the instalation the system says "no hard disk were found". What can I do for the system recognize the hard discs? Thanks Joni

ntlm_auth helpers

Hi All, I have joined suse 9.1 to a w2k domain. When i want to test squid with ntlm_auth by doing the following: ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=squid-2.5-basic --domain=mydomain --username=username --password=password nothing happens but when i test it like the following: ntlm_auth --domain=mydomain --username=username --password=password I get OK. Why do i not get an OK with the squid helper? How can i check if the following is enable with smb: --enable-auth="ntlm,basic" --enable-external-acl-helpers="wbinfo_group" I used yast to install smb and squid. blank screen question

Hi all... After a few minutes of the screen saver working the screen goes black. I've turned off powersaver but this still happens. How can I stop the screen from going black? sulog and restrictions

Hi Group Does anybody know how I can go about restricting logins (telnet) for other users besides the root user? I'm looking to restrict my dba's from logging in directly to the oracle account and would rather have them su to the oracle account from their individual logins. Also, is there a way I can log the "su" attempts made on my servers, bypassing the messages log? Cant get through D-link wireless router

I'm running Su'SE 9.2 with a D-Link dwg-650 pcmcia wireless. It configures fine with Yast. When I get it going it goes out to a D-Link WiFi router Model DI-624 and gets an IP faithfully. I can ping the router and run the router utility from my laptop, yet I cannot get anything through the router until I power it down and repower it. Then all works fine. By cannot get anything through, I mean I cannot ping the internet connection or anything on the internet. The error message says no connection. If I run a cable to the router, I can get an ip and go onto the net without fail. Running windows I can get the ip and go onto the net without having to unplug the router. It appears the wireless router firewall is set up to allow all on the lan to go to the net. Any ideas? TIA Richard

Sound Card Problems

I'm using Suse Linux Professional 9.1 on HP D530 Desktop, and I cannot hear any sound. Everything seems OK from the point of view of the hardware; in fact, I tried installing Windows OS on a disk partition of my PC and in this case the sound works fine. I suspect there is a sort of incompatibility between the sound card and the Linux OS, but looking at YAST, the hardware seems correctly recognized and configured. However, if I try to reproduce a sound, even the bell sound, I don't get any error message, but no sound comes out. The name of my integrated sound card are: 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) My office mate has the same Linux OS on a HP EVO D310 and he has never experienced problems with his sound card, which is a 82801DB (ICH4). Anybody can help? Thanks, Beatrice
