Hello, I have a similar question; if you're not running X how can you disable screen blanking? I know about "xset s off" and "xset -dpms", however, what is the equivalent when not running X? Remote Administration

After I connect to a remote machine using Remote Administration by typing http://<hostname>:5801 into the webbrowser, the display looks like a silber mesh screen. The deskop is not visible. I have the firewall correctly set. I have looked in the USer Guide and support portal, but I couldn't fine anything to help.

Mounting windows shares

All, This might be more appropriate in the samba forum but I wanted to try here first. I am trying to mount windows AD 2003 shares with the mount command and it is telling me that smb client signing is needed and is turned off. I searched the knowledge database for how to turn it on and even did some searching on google. I am familiar with samba as I have a FreeBSD box at home with samba installed and I know from the server side you put "client signing = auto" in the smb.conf but how in the world do you turn it on from the client side especially in SuSE9.2?

video at startup problem

Hello, this may be a stupid question, but I am at a loss what to do. I have received a pc with suse linux 9.2, which boots well. After booting, i expect a login screen. However, I get a message from the monitor: Attention cannot display this video mode change computer display input to 1280x1024@60hz. No screen, nothing. What do I do now? Thanks for any help, Ruud

We ran into this problem as well. mod_auth_ldap / ssl support

libgtk2-dev ?

Hi, I tried to install Bluefish from the latest cvs version. But configure script gives me an error which says libgtk2-dev is missing. I've gtk, gtk-devel, gtk2 and gtk2-devel installed, but they don't include a library named libgtk2-dev. Is there any other package that i'm missing? The configure script logs include also the line below : checking for gtk+ .... no libgtk2-dev is missing Thanks in advance.

ALSA question

Hi all, At home I have a Soundblaster Live. This card can handle multiple audio streams, for example, I can listen to music, and the kde plings and plongs will still sound, and if someone phones me on skype, it will ring while the music is playing. At work, I have an old Soundblaster 128, which doesn't have this functionality in hardware. I know arts does this, but arts always lag (ever tried to watch a movie with sound going through arts?), and not all sound apps can talk to arts. I also know that ALSA can handle this. I've seen it done, but for all the things I've tried, I can't get it to work. I know it can be done, I've seen it done (saw it on a audiophile's PC, old redhat with alsa added by hand). APC UPS

Hi all, Does anyone know how to set up an APC Back_UPS XS 1500 battery backup? This APC ups works with a USB cable on the PC side connecting to an RJ-45 plug in the back of the ups. I'm using Suse 8.2. The apcupsd that comes with 8.2 does not seem to know how to handle the usb connection. Nor does the PowerChute I downloaded from APC, it only seems to work with serial. I tried installing rpm's from suse ftp for suse 9.0 and 9.1, but they have too many dependencies on 8.2. Does anyone have an rpm for a newer version of apcupsd for suse 8.2?
