Suse & SATA Raid/Tape

Ok double barrelled question here. Im relatively a newbie when it comes to linux so excuse me if I sound a bit dumb. 1) hows linux for sata raids (mirrored). Am I going to hit any snags? Are there any particular boards/chipsets to stay clear of? Im plumping for a Intel-32bit cpu (possibly a Prescott 3.2ghz) 2) how easy is linux to setup to do a regular (3 times a week) tape backup. It doesn't have to be automatic or anything complicated like that, but it does have to be easy enough to do so I can teach a client who's not terrifically pc literate. Also, would the webmin interface allow remote access to tape backup? I know I could probably google most of the information I needed if I looked hard enough, but its late and im tired and im meant to know for sometime tomorrow. So basically ive left it until last minute to get the info required and now I don't have time. I have every faith in you!!! VNC

Can someone point me in the right direction to get VNC working. I enabled on the server, then when I connect via Firefox it asks me for a password. I havn't established a password to begin with. When I put in the user password or root password it looks like it connects put the display is gray with an X marking the curser. If someone is using VNC could please point me in the right direction? Thanks

iptables -j REDIRECT stoped working in 9.1 & 9.2

I used to be able to do this: iptables -t nat -I OUTPUT -p icmp --icmp-type echo-request -j REDIRECT And then be able to ping any IP address as everything was redirected back to 127.0.0.1. Not sure when it stopped working but it doesn't work now on 9.2 or 9.1 with latest kernels. What magic runes & invocations are required to get this working again? Cosmo

UDF and bootable CDRW

Hi all, is there a way to create a bootable CDRW containing a UDF filesystem ? The basic idea is to boot a mini Linux and after boot mount the CDRW and write some log files to the media. Did someone manage to get this working ? Thanks in advance, Tobias

Recompiling glibc

Hello, I'm running SLES 8 with kernel 2.4.21-273 and glibc-2.2.5.-233. When I try to recompile glibc I got an error because the <gd.h> <gdfonts.h> <gdfontl.h> and <gd_io.h> file is not found. These include files are present in /usr/include of course but not in kernel-header. Does somebody know how to recompile the glibc ?? Selecting LSB Group w/ Gnome Default (gdm)

During install when you select Gnome Desktop Environment and then select "Detailed Selection" and pick the LSB group it has a conflict that LSB requires "default" (i.e. KDE Desktop Environment) instead of default-Gnome. Is this a bug?? Shouldn't it require either "default" or "default-Gnome"?? Is there a specific reason people who choose Gnome can't have LSB?

palm pilot zire don't run in Suse 9.2 pro

Yesterday I updated my notebook, from SuSE 9.1 to SuSE 9.2 professional, then I can't use palm pilot zire 21, connected via usb, because Kpilot don't find it in /dev/palm or /dev/pilot or /dev/ttyUSB0,1,2,3.... I think cause is in the new virtual file system /dev, but searching via google and in the suse knowledge base, I not find more information about to configure right the palm device... -- Calogero Bonasia

problem with nikon d100 and usb port with suse 9,1 and also with suse 9.2

At the beginning I tested the Photocamera nikon d100 with suse 9,0 and all was ok, when I upgraded to suse 9.1 I had a problem because when i plugged the camera I had a signal error. When I upgraded to suse 9.2 I hopped that the problem will be solved , but I had a new problem! now I don't have e signal error when I plug the camera, but the xterm, konqueror an the keyboard are stopped, when I turn off the camera all are ok. I tested also the list of the cameras in gphoto2 --list cameras and there is the nikon listed in this mode "nikon DSC D100 (PTP mode)". There is same settings that can I do?
