where is GLUT in SuSE 9.1 ?

Folks, I tried compiling some code that uses GLUT and it failed because GLUT seems to be gone. I tried installing GLUT myself but it requires OpenGL. Since GL seems to be already installed by SuSE I did not want to mix things up... Question, what is the correct thing to do? Is GLUT obsolete now? Thanks for your help. Dell 5150 Laptop with SUSE Linux

Hi all, I just ordered my first Laptop machine, and I'm wondering if anyone has used the same model, or knows if it works with SUSE Linux, or at least works with Linux in General, because I really don't plan on leaving XP on it. Laptop Specs: Inspiron 5150 Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 3.06GHz, 15-in XGA RAM 512MB, 333MHz, 2 DIMMs Video Card 32MB DDR NVIDIA® GeForce™ FX Go5200 AGP 4x Graphic Hard Drive 30GB Hard Drive Integrated Network Card Internal 56K Modem 8X Max Variable DVD-ROM Drive Primary Battery 96 WHr Lithium-Ion Primary Battery Dell 720 Color Printer Does anyone have a laptop like this? I haven't looked into it yet but I'm just wondering if anyone does use one of these and if they work or not. I won't be using the modem, so that doesn't matter. I have a Cable connection, so the NIC hopefully will work. And Printers... I've never used one in Linux before, so that will be new to me. I have about 60 OSs, including SUSE Linux 8.1 8.1 and 9.1 Professional, and BSD and Other Linux distros, and I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck with this system. So what do you guys think? This is my first laptop, and I'm hoping it works out. Are Dell Inspiron Laptos generally good? Good with Linux?

Hi, I have the following setup. 2 SuSE 9.1 machines, updated. One is the LDAP server and the second one the machine on which I want to login using LDAP accounts.. I have an objectClass uaicCont with all the fields from posixAccounts and shadowAccount. When I log on the second machine and try to change the password using passwd command the userPassword is changed with the new password but the shadowLastChange field on the LDAP server doesn't change. A different problem related to USB external drives. I just downloaded the "free" 9.1 yesterday, burned it to a CD, and figured to install it at home. It errored-out on three files but kept on installing, then rebooted. To nothing. I had to restart the machine with an old Windows 95 disk so I could use "fdisk /mbr" to enable the machine to even find Win2K. Note I'd allowed SuSE to do what looked like intelligent partitioning of my installed hard disk and the Maxtor 300LS 40GB attached via USB and formatted for NTFS. When I went back into the system via Partition Magic 8 I got a message that there were formatting errors and that the external disk needed to have its data backed off. There WAS no data. PM8 marked 40 GB of space as "Bad." It could not be accessed nor could it be reformatted. This is not the first time this has happened with a Maxtor disk. I did nothing but follow the SuSE prompts and let it do the thinking. I've also had this experience with Redhat so it's not just one brand of Linux, it seems to be a situation with the external drive doesn't care for something in Ext3 formatting (maybe). Anyone had this experience. lock, an unimplemented system call

I am running KDE3.2 on SuSE 9.1 and using Kmail I ran into following problem. I had a sudden break down of my power (although I have an UPS) and since then I cannot save addresses in my KDE address book. It tells me that saving an address is not possible and somewhere I get the info "kde_share_apps_kabc_std.vcf' is locked by application ''. Looking for a possibility to unlock this file I only found in the man and info file that lock is one of the "unimplemented system calls" Can somebody tell me how to unlock the file? Sitting at the end of the barbed wire that they here call telephone line I cannot easily google for all the lock possibilities.

Yast conflict resolution question

Hi. I have a 9.1 system working great. I want to install a package ("A") that I haven't installed before, so I go to Yast and try to install it. When I select "A", I get dependency errors because in the meantime You has upgraded package "B" that "A" depends on. Yast will let me downgrade "B" (which isn't such a good idea because "B" is all configured and customized) or install "A" and ignore the conflict. What is the best way to overcome the situation? There is an upgraded package "A" out there on the update server. Why won't Yast go get that one? Thanks!

confirming logrotate has occured

Hi, I would like to check my system is logrotating as I cannot have the partition it is outgrow the HDD. How would I check, besides viewing the cron_daily etc scripts, that the logrotated had run and compressed any of my logs? ifup script on SuSE 9.1 Pro

I'm trying to set up my SuSE 9.1 box as an open Access Point with HostAP. Its all configured to load up the HostAP modules & they seem to be working just fine but the ifup script doesnt seem to be working for the interface. The interface doesnt start up on boot either. The card is a D-Link DWL-520. Setting Up DSL Connection (BellSouth)

O.k. gang, I got the BellSouth DSL service I mentioned previously. I'm running SUSE 8.0 Pro. The DSL modem (router) is a Westell modell and I'm using the ethernet connector. SUSE apparently sees it and sets it up as dsl0 at boot time. (1) Ran Yast - activated personal firewall, set Dial-On-Demand, set DNS addresses, and using PPPOe (2) Username & password are correct.
