Different versions of crypt?

Hello all, I have a server running a minimal install of 9.1 plus a few extra packages needs to run some apps. One of those apps is Courier. After it was in production for a while, we started getting complaints that some users were getting intermittant login failures. I checked and the other two servers that run Courier were working fine (both RedHat9), but the Suse box was failing the authentication. After pulling my hair out for a couple hours, I noticed that the crypted passwords for the problem users all start with $1 and the ones that work do not. Upon further investigation, I found that the problem passwords were generated by a script on an old Slackware box (kernel 2.2). The good passwords were generated by a script on another RedHat9 box. I don't know a whole lot about encryption algorithms, but I'm guessing that the Slackware box produced passwords using an old algorithm that the RedHat box still had support for, but Suse9.1 does not (or at least does not with the minimal install that I have). It appears that the userdbpw binary for Courier is linked against /lib/libcrypt.so.1 which belongs to glibc. I have: RedHat9: glibc-2.3.2-27.9 Suse9.1: glibc-2.3.3-97 Does anyone have any ideas how I can get Suse to read the old passwords? Am I just missing a package or two? Apache + PHP

I' ve installed Apache + PHP in Suse Linux 9.1 and it works. However, on http://localhost, it gives me an "access forbidden" error message and doesn't recognize PHP file extensions. I've added one line to conf file, with "AddType application/x-http-php .php", and nothing changed. How to solve this ? Thanks.

Dell 2550 and SLES 9

Im attempting to install SLES 9 on a Dell PowerEdge 2550 and everytime I get to the graphical part of the install, the system will reboot itself. I have upgraded to latest latest version of bios (A09) with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks, Ryan

K3b Can't Find CD Writer on Kernel 2.6.8.1 Vanilla

I use SuSE 9.1 with Kernel 2.6.8.1 Vanilla. K3b (Compiled to the new kernel) doesn't find my CD Writer From BenQ. I have used multiple distros and have never had this problem.

Does anyone use exim? I've asked this on the exim mailing-list but got no response. The default setting of never_users = root means you cannot deliver mail addressed to root as if it were a normal user. The way round this is to put an alias in /etc/aliases and run newaliases. Apache or PHP problem

Hi all, I'am using SuSe 9.1 with Apache and PHP. In order to get access toMS SQL server I installed freeTDS ODBC driver. Everything ok, except I can't get it in a PHP webpage. I use in my PHP scripts odbc_connect. ISGL is working. When I look in apache error_log it say: /usr/sbin/httpd2-prefork: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/php/extensions/unixODBC.so: undefined symbol: SQLAllocEnv script not found or unable to stat I'am not sure this is a PHP or an Apache problem. Request Tracker and installation problem!!

Hi all, I was trying to install Request Tracker 3.2.2 on Suse 9.1 Professional. The perl modules for some reason do not install when try to install them using CPAN. Did anybody install Request Tracker on Suse 9.1 successfully? If so, which Apache module "mod_perl or fastcgi", did you use? I appreciate you help. Performance Tuning SuSE 9.1

After the discussion last week about tuning your install of 9.x, there were a few things in there that made my system a little snappier (turning off the hardware check for speedier boot, etc), but there are most likely a bunch of other things you can do.
