mldonkey process refuses to die

I have been experimenting with mldonkey. After exiting the program, I noticed my system was slow, with unusual disk activity and a lot of processor usage. Ksysguard shows a persistent mldonkey process that consumes 22 % of system resources. I can't seem to kill it,. I've tried killall mldonkey, kill 1505, kill -9 1505, as user and as root, but the process is still there. Any suggestions, apart from rebooting? I need ideas for Linux training course (OT)

Hi All! It is a nice coincidence that we have a headline "Indian president in favor of Linux". I have been approached by a training company in India to help develop course work for introductory Linux course (eventually advanced topics). In the first stage we will be developing a course for people who are moving up from Windows to Linux. That is, they have some basic computer knowledge (at least what is necessary to run Windows), so they need Linux-specifica. There are the obvious things like differences in commands/options, dual booting, SAMBA, and so forth. However, I would really appreaciate some brain storming ideas on what I could/should include. My partner tells me that India is pretty much "Microsoft country" and there are no companies that provide Linux training. This would be a great oppotunity to show IT people the power of Linux. mailman problem

hi, when i try to start mailman using "rcmailman start" i get the following error: Starting mailmanSite list is missing: mailman failed does anybody have any ideas what the problem could be? thanks --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. YaST2 Software Install does not show uninstalled packages

portmap, and another ...

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi gang, I ran lsat a few days ago, and finally stumbled on the output log. It's suggesting I rid myself of portmap. I did a 'man portmap' and a 'man rpc', and they both might as well have been written in latin. But I think I picked up on enough to guess that if I'm not running any kind of server for the internet (a server being something someone from 'outside' my own home can use?), then I really don't need portmap...is this correct? When I tried 'rpcinfo -p' , I got back portmap on 111, twice, so I guess it's the only thing 'open'? Next quicky question...when I did a nanoprobe test of all services ports <http://nanoprobe.grc.com/>, I have port 113 'closed' instead of 'stealth'. Okay, this one I'll need to ask the tech guys at my ISP if I can actually stealth this, am I correct? Since it's the ident port? All other ports were 'stealth', but I also failed the ping test (icmp echo). Is there a way to make it so that my machine doesn't answer 'pings'? This is just a plain ol' everyday machine, not running anything special, I use it for mail, surfin', and not a whole lot else. Steve talked about how ZoneAlarm "adaptively stealths" port 113, is there some way to get SuSEFirewall2 to do this also? Thanks for the help as always. posted ximian evolution rpm patch/update for 8.2

I recently downloaded the evolution rpm patch for 8.2 and used yast to install it. But it didn't seem to install and evolution remained at 1.2.2 Does any body know if there is a problem with that patch? I have a suspicion that it is a patch for 8.1 and will not work for 8.2 Any comments? -- Cheers, Serge Naggar

ApacheSSL on SuSE 8.0

Hello. I am trying to bring ApacheSSL up on SuSE 8.0. I set HTTPD_SEC_MOD_SSL to "yes" in /etc/sysconfig/apache and ran SuSEconfig --module apache. Now when I try to bring up ApacheSSL I get the following error message: Starting httpd [ PERL PHP4 SSL ] Syntax error on line 1442 of /etc/httpd/httpd.conf: Invalid command 'SSLEngine', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration I have been unable to find an explanation.
