What can i do for that? I have a 3com switch that shares some ips. one of them is the 192.168.1.251 How to set the HD to FD and vice versa? 8.2 with 9.0 kernel?

I have a couple of 8.2 servers that I exclusively use to run Samba. I need to upgrade to a newer kernel, and I'm wondering if it is safe to just upgrade to the latest 9.0 kernel, or if I need to upgrade the full distribution. Background: Recently I have had a couple of kernel lockups. I'm not too concerned about that, but they in turn caused some file corruption on files that had been in use hours before, but not at the time of the lockup. I've done research and this is a problem with XFS 1.2, which is what I am using on those servers. (Included with the 8.2 kernel.) XFS 1.3 is supposed to have this issue resolved. ie. There was apparently a sync bug in XFS 1.2 that kept files from being flushed to disk on a regular basis. With 1.3 the disk cache is sync'd to disk every 30 seconds like it should have been all along. The 9.0 kernel has XFS 1.3 (or 1.3.1) included. Thanks Greg -- Greg Freemyer

Hi Running the command (root) mii-diag i recieved that the command not found. Afterwards, i gave the mii-tool command and i recieved the following. eth0: negotiated 100baseTx-FD, link ok. I think that the above means that the link to the net is working. However, i saw the content of the /var/log/messages and i observed the text below. Updating the kernel using apt.

Hi Folks Installed apt last night and am currently upgrading a lot of software. I note that the kernel is included in this, and am a little nervous about this. Will there be any surprises....do I have to mkinit_rd and adjust my bootloader, or is this done automatically? Best Regards Brian

[SLE] wvdial.dod

Dear list, I've found a copy of wvdial.dod and installed on my SuSE. The problem is as follows; 1. I dial using "wvdial" --> login to ISP 100% working. 2. WVdial.dod script executes "wvdial --chat Defaults " This does not work. Does not pickup modem, just sends 3 ATZ codes to the modem. 3. If i killall wvdial + ppd and simply use "wvdial" everything works fine. My requirement is dial on demand for squid. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! Fred

Restoring linux GRUB bootloader after Windows partition reinstall

Hi all, I currently have a single machine with 3 HDD's namely: 1) 20Gb linux partitioned drive 2) 6.5Gb Win95 OS drive (my documents are sitting under /home on linux) 3) 7.5Gb linux native drive for backup of the hda's /home etc. My Win95 install on hdb recently went bottoms up after several linux distro installs on hda. I would therefore like to reload Windows and the financial software I use (Quicken98) as I have not seen or found a linux alternative as yet. Problem 1: Selecting Windows from the GRUB bootloader does not load Windows but gives chainloader errors. Therefore I will be booting from a Win95 boot disk to install Windows.Everything I think should be fine until I want to boot back into my preferred OS (linux). I have a Suse 9.0 boot disk and know I could boot from that but I do not know the command to isue to redetect and reinstall the bootloader.
