Know that Yast wanted to write something with regard of nfs in the fstab but that was all. Had some powersurges and the computer suddenly died even with a UPS. Looked up in /etc and found that in the fstab and the mtab there were only three lines. /dev /root /ext1 defaults 0 0 proc /proc defaults 0 0 devpts /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0 Nothing more. After a reboot I got following message after the console login: clm-6005: writing mode 737 on readonly FS My normal graphical login was absent and there is no login possibility after this message. Neither as root nor as user. Before I go into my SuSE 8.2 with the rescue mode I would like to know what I should do and where I should start repairing. Any ideas. Need more info? Which? -- NTReader v0.36w(P)/Beta (Registered) in conjunction with Net-Tamer.

D-Link DSB 560 Modem - problem

Hallo all, 1. After having instability problem with Smartlink PCI Modem, I try now an external modem. Details: D-Link DSB 560 (Atlas) USB Modem, recognized well under Suse 8.1, as /dev/ttyACM0. When I tried to dial using kinternet, I got this (the last three lines): - "stdin not read/write and $MODEM not set" - "connect script failed - " died: connect script failed (exit code 8) " What do those lines mean? By using wvdial, it does not improve the result either. Could some help me please? I really hate surfing under windows, to be honest. 2. Meantime I failed to purchase a r_e_a_l linux internal modem (but no so expensive). Have read info on linmodems and winmodems. I am not sure if I fully understand. How to restore shipping kernel and modules

OK I screwed up in an attempt to "optimize" a self-compiled kernel using Suse 8.2 pro. All works fine except hotplug fails to start. At this point I just don't have the time to learn how to diagnose and fix this. Sadly, before the recompilation I lacked the brains to backup the shipping 2.2.40-4GB modules. I have the original kernel. How do I restore the shipping modules into /lib/modules? TIA, Bernd

I am ofsett.... I have a TV Tuner Leadtek TV 2000 XP deluxe, that work ok with my suse 8.2, but I am unable to configure my tv tuner remote to work with suse. So, please I ned a step by step help to configure my tvtuner remote to make-it work . What kernel module I have to load, what parameters to add to tv tuner in modules conf, and if it is posible a config file for both lirc and tvtime.... please

Another Evolution annoyance
