re gigabyte 8ihxp motherboard

Hi I've just bought a gigabyte 8ihxp motherboard which has usb 2.0 and ich4 on it.Does anyone one out there know If this board works with either Suse 8.0 or Suse 8.1? Or does anyone have this same motherboard running under Linux? I haven't installed it yet as I am still waiting for the processor and pc1066 rambus. Richard G.

apache index.html not recognised

Hi everyone Locally, http://localhost/foo throws open index.html in the directory foo as does http://localhost/foo/ >From the internet, http://my.address/foo gives 404 whereas http://my.address/foo/ works fine. I want both: http://my.address/foo *and* http://my.address/foo/ to do the same thing. Any ideas? SuSE 8.0. Thanks, Steve

Mysql-Max + RAID5 + Reiserfs

I set up a new server last weekend on a Dell poweredge 2300 with a megaraid raid controller configured for raid5. The install was uneventful and I took the default partition formats (/boot=ext2 /=reiserfs). However, when I tried to run mysql-max with innodb table support, the mysql service would crash with a signal 11. I didn't have a lot of time to troubleshoot it since I had to have it restored and ready for operation the next day, so I removed the mysql-max package and left mysql with the default table backend, and it started and ran fine. Does anyone know of any strangeness with the combination of Mysql with Innodb + RAID5 + Reiserfs that might cause this? BTW, I have mysql-max and innodb running great on several other machines, but they all have IDE disks and none are using RAID. Best Regards, Keith -- LPIC-2, MCSE, N+ Sing blue silver Got spam? webserver with dynamic IP problem

Hi everyone. I don't have a fixed IP but if I leave my computer on, I can use it successfully as a webserver. The problem is if I need to reboot. No one can find me since my IP has changed. Is there any workaround to this? SuSE 8 with the default Apache setup. Thanks, steve.

Crashing on System Halt.

I use Suse8.0 and since I installed the Alcatel drivers for the Speed Touch USB ADSL modem, in the manner suggested on the suse site (http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/configSpeedTouch.html) I have suffered irregular system crashes just after the "Sending TERM signal to all processes.." I would guess that its a kernal problem, and I would make a new one, but Im a bit lost as to what I would need to keep the modem happy. Any ideas? -- Richard Fletcher, Sheffield, UK.

I use fluxbox in 7.3 and had to do the following... 1. in /usr/X11/bin create a link to your fluxbox executable, e.g. ln -s /usr/local/bin/fluxbox /usr/X11/bin 2. Add the fluxbox to the login manager sessions 3. Add fluxbox to /usr/X11/bin/wmlist You've done step 2 already - so I guess step 1 would probably help. Not too sure if wmlist still exists for 8.0, but if it does, it should be added there also. [Newbie]: SuSE LiveEval 8.0

Hello, I am a SuSE Linux 7.2 Personal user and I want to create a LiveEval CD to test 8.0 and decide whether or not to migrate to a 8.0 actual install because I am not satisfied with the support 7.2 gives to my DSL card (a D-Link DFE-538TX). Thus my question is: 1 - What files shall I put into a CD? liveeval-8.0.iso ONLY? Or should I add any other files like bootdisk, modules1, etc? 2 - Can I FTP and burn liveeval-8.0.iso into a CD using Windows ME? I ask that because I don't have internet access through SuSE 7.2 (because I've had problems having my ethernet card recognised). 3 - Are there any special steps to make the CD bootable? 4 - I understand that the .iso file has to be FTPd as a binary one. I hope that is correct. Can this FTP transfer be done using Windows ME? I have tried lots of combinations of the above and neither worked. My last resort was to find some help in a list like this one. In my honest opinion SuSE has done a very poor job as to supplying information in their www/ftp site on how to burn LiveEval disks. I am trashing away CDs after CDs because nothing that I do works.
