getting mod_perl to work out of homedirs

Hi, Has anyone figured out how to modify the httpd.conf so that the mod_perl will work in the user's public_html. I'm running the example script in the mod_perl docs. print "Content-type: text/plain\r\n\r\n"; print "Server's environment\n"; foreach ( keys %ENV ) { print "$_\t$ENV{$_}\n"; } You don't need a shebang-line for this, and mod_perl will run it if it's in the main cgi-bin of the server, and it's called like this: http://myserver.net/perl/modperl-test instead of http://myserver.net/cgi-bin/modperl-test This seems to be taken care of in the httpd.conf. I tried adding the user home dirs to the httpd.conf but it didn't work. So has anyone done this yet? Adding fonts from ftp.gimp.org - how to ?

OK, adding the 2 font packages from ftp.gimp.org in 8.0 is different than previous SuSE versions. What is the best way to add sharefonts & freefonts and use them in x-windows. Previous distrubutions I manually installed xfstt and used that. I think SuSE has an rpm for TT font server and does it work well ? Thanks -- W.D.McKinney (Dee) http://3519098920

SuSEconfig, gnome? newbie...

Hi, When running SuSEconfig I get strange message when it comes to "susewm" ERROR: ISO-8859-1->UTF-8 encoding conversation is not supported by iconv ERROR: ISO-8859-1->UTF-8 encoding conversation is not supported by iconv ERROR: ISO-8859-1->UTF-8 encoding conversation is not supported by iconv ERROR: ISO-8859-1->UTF-8 encoding conversation is not supported by iconv ERROR: ISO-8859-1->UTF-8 encoding conversation is not supported by iconv ..... it happened after I tried to install gnome2 on SUSE 8.0 with apt-get gnome2. Gnome doesn't work anyway, when trying gnome-session from kdm it complains in /var/log/messages :Aug 26 10:14:31 mk78 gconfd (straka-26255): CORBA_ORB_destroy: ORB still has 2 refs. And it complains that it couldnt find .conf2*lock* file... and goes back to kdm. Anyone to help a bit? Michal Straka

Mounting USB Camera

My needs are fairly modest re. my cheap 'n' cheerful Fuji FinePix 1300 digital camera. Images can be accessed via the USB port... e.g. I can do things like: mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /camera (where /camera exists already) Now I'd (maybe) like to put an entry into /etc/fstab like: /dev/sda1 /camera rw,auto,user,exec 0 0 But the problem seems to be when nothing is connected and/or powered up at boot time, SuSE is (naturally?) not happy with this line. When I *do* power up the camera during a session, SuSE then appends it's own line as: /dev/sda1 /media/sda1 auto noauto,user,exec 0 0 #HOTPLUG B3Fu.DpqVjiHbEi5 which presumably allows me to access the camera as above. My question is: CAN access be automated via /etc/fstab file with such a VERY removable device? Chris

kdm won't log in users

Recently I upgraded to SuSE's most recent xFree86 packages. After the upgrade regular users could no longer log in (to an x-session) via kdm. I created a work around by adding all of my users to the root group (home machine) obviously not a good solution. Whats the right method, I'm guessing it has to do w/ permissions but where should I look to find the answer? Thanks again -- dh

SuSE 7.2 Disk 1 ISO

Dear fellow SuSE users, Last week I was installing SuSE 7.2 Professional on a system here at my office that had literally eaten my Disk 1 CD. (You should see the bottom of this disk, It is so badly marred.) :-( The first thing that I did was contact SuSE, whom told me that they no longer stock replacement CD's for 7.2 Pro nor have the images anymore. (They said that they would gladly send me _something_ if they had something to send me...) I have looked around on the Internet for SuSE images. Unfortunately, I could not find any. So, I ask you, my fellow SuSE peers to offer assistance. Does anyone have a SuSE 7.2 Disk 1 image that they can post and I can download or does someone know where I can get one from? problems with the sound module

Hello list, I have SuSE 8.0, recently I have compiled the kernel (2.4.18) and all runs ok except the sound. While loading the system, there is a line which says : ...cannot locate module snd-ens1371... I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audio PCI128 card. Of course I have made : make modules and make modules_install Please, can you help me? Thank you !

Two Internet connection & Firewall

I try to setup a firewall between eth0 (wild and dangerous Internet) and eth3 (our internal LAN). So far I have done this with the Monmotha script. Since Firewall2 comes also with iptables, I would like to switch over to it. Is there anything I have to take care of? The expert mode is a little bit fustrating, since I need a lots of ports, .... where is the conf file to add these ports at once? And now the big question; I have a second Internet connection to the Internet on eth1. Yast gives me only ONE choice. Which files do I need to copy for the second firewall eth1/eth3 Routing: So far I used routing as: My server (firewall is reachable from the Internet by ip and name on eth0 All users on my LAN use the Internet via eth1 (in dhcp set) and as backup via eth1 I am planning to use zebra with a private AS number to get BGP4 routing done between the two ethernet ports eth0 and eth1. Any hints, thoughts, comments to that? And finally: I have also IPv6 addresses (from both Internet connections). How to setup this with the firewall? OO doesn't display simbol on screen (w/ external libfreetype)

Hi, anyone have this problem: OO (writer) doesn't display certain symbols **on screen**, when starting OO using external freetype2 (enable byte-hinting)? For example, the bullets symbol aren't displayed (tried for tt and type1 fonts). Printing is ok, however. Note: manually inserting symbol did work (Insert -> Special Character...). What does not work are things like: 1. Using formula -> symbols like '=', 'sigma' aren't displayed *on-screen*. 2. Using auto-list (auto-bullets), the bullet symbols are't displayed *on-screen* TIA. Laptop Installation

Hi Anyone know what this might be about or how to sort it out ? I've got hold of a Toshiba Libretto 100CT for my own use. It's got all the usual things. USB port, Irda etc. CD-Rom and floppy drive are plugged in through PCMCIA slots. So, I have to get the SuSE modules working in the laptop before I can do an installation. I downloaded the appropriate boot and modules disks from... ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/8.0/disks/ These would seem to want to work unlike the disks that came with the boxed version of SuSE 8.0 which only work with workstations and more up to date laptop hardware. After booting with the i386 disk I am asked to insert the modules1 disk. I do that and booting for installation continues. However, when I am next asked to insert the modules3 disk I find that the PCMCIA based Toshiba floppy drive drive part no.PA2612U continues to turn over without stopping to allow me to insert disk 3. When I insert disk three and press return I am told that the floppy drive is not there. Messages on another console also say that the floppy drive has mysteriously vanished even though it worked fine with the boot disk. Anyone know how to fix this with some command line magic or something else that will fix the problem ? I can't think of any reason why this notebook shouldn't work with SuSE 8.0. It's got 64Mb of RAM and a Neomagic graphics card that supports 1024x768 resolution. Shouldn't be a problem anywhere.
