Bind 9, DHCP & SuSE 7.3 ==> 8.0 prof

I used to compile Bind9 and the newest DHCP under 7.3 and before. I have installed SuSE 8.0, but have not setup on that machine the name server. However I made a online update and saw that it installs some components for bind9 AND bind8 How can I tell SuSE 8.0 to use Bind9 ?? Which DHCP server comes with SuSE 8.0 prof ??? Changing MySQL database locations

Hi. I want to move my MySQL databases to another partition. I thought of just moving them and creating a symlink to the files. What I wanted to know is this. How can I make sure that databases created will also be in the new partition but symlinks are still created in the /var/lib/mysql directory. For example. Say my new DB path is /new/mysql I create a symlink in /var/lib to /new/mysql. If I do a create database statement, will the files go into /new/mysql and a symlink be created in /var/lib/mysql. Using KDE3, there is an icon on my task bar that was installed by SuSE. There is one that says "Browse : YAST/" as its tool tip. It contains Install Software, Yast2 Modules menu and a few others. How do I change its display icon? How do I customize this menu? I wanna remove some things from it such as Screen configuration. Salman

compiling w qt

Greetings all; Since upgradeing to suse kde3.0.3 using suse rpms there seems to be a config issue at my end. Several applications that I am trying to compile that depend on qt fail with and its irrelevant what version I point the config scripts too. Im sure its something very simple whoever that I am overlooking. checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.0.3) (library qt-mt) not found. Please check your installation! For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log. Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support! now qt-mt rpm and qt are installed as part of the dependancy package. As I am not well versed wtih configuration issues Im wondering if someone could provide some quidance as to how to sort this out. many thanks in advance Chris H

EXT3 on 7.3

I want to change my SuSE 7.3 root filesystem to ext3 but am having trouble. Here is what I have done so far: 1. Added a journal to the file system: tune2fs -j /dev/hda7 2. Edited /etc/fstab to change the following line: /dev/hda7 / ext3 defaults 1 1 3. Edited /etc/cr.config as follows: INITRD_MODULES="jbd ext3 usbcore usb-uhci input hid keybdev mousedev e100" 4. Ran the following as root: mk_initrd lilo 5. Rebooted the system and received the following messages: <4>VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) ... snip ... <3>ext3: No journal on filesystem on ide(3,7) <4>VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly. I looked at the SuSE Support Database and found http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/ext3_rootfs_73.html which said a new mk_initrd script was needed and gave a link that is broken: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/snwint/initrd/mk_initrd -- Robert C. Host not found for second provider

The problem is that the connection with the old provider, moved from ippp0 to ippp2, works fine, and the new ippp0, with ippp1 slave, get the connection too, but the message obtain from the browser is " Host non found". >From /var/log/messages i see: ... [OT] Blender goes open-source

Most people on this list will be aware that the rather idiosyncratic 3D/animation package Blender disappeared earlier this year when its parent company Not a Number went bankrupt. In July an agreement was reached whereby Blender would be open-sourced by a newly-established Blender Foundation if 100,000 euros could be raised to "buy" it from what remained of the original NaN holding company. The campaign fund was opened on 18 July (www.blender3d.com) and 5 weeks later the total raised is 88,000 euros, with some more in promises. This is quite an interesting development - there are various views on NaN's business plan before it went bankrupt, but resurrecting it like this, where its supporters have actually placed a monetary value on the cost of the code, will give it a second chance. It may also be a useful precedent in arguing for the open-sourcing of other closed-source programs which are no longer in development. Newbie question... I want to have a setserial command executed on bootup. My generic Linux books tell me to add the command to rc.local. Suse 8.0 doesn't seem to have one. Do I make one or does Suse do things differently? Thanks!
