Since StarOffice 6.0 software is focused on documents, it needs to exit when you close the last document. If you want to have StarOffice 6.o software up and running all the time, open a document that you never work on and keep that open. Seems like strange behavior to me.... Since I've installed SuSE 8.0 and CUPS, and Gimp-print 4.2 to drive my EPSON STYLUS printer printing from Acrobat Reder is appearantly possible but in practise the printer does not even start. When I display a "pdf" file through Acrobat and select "Print" from the top bar drop-dowm menu the printing interface starts nicely and allows me to make choices. When I eventually finalize my choices and click on the Print button it shows the number of pages sent to the printer named "lp" (installation time name) but the printer keeps being idle ! Moreover if I open the KJobViewer the list of printing job is simply empty no matter the number of print-jobs have been started by Acrobat ! Please, can someone help me with this "printing" problem ? Problems upgrading PyQt on SuSE 8.0 system

I've been unable to upgrade PyQt from version 3.0-127, which is installed, to version 3.3.2-3, which recently appeared in the supplementary/KDE ftp dir. I've been trying for some time to upgrade with each new version that appears, but the dependency on sip keeps tripping me up since I've not been able to locate the appropriate version of sip. The error msg from "apt-get -s install PyQt" is: Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies: PyQt: Depends: sip (= 3.3.2) but 3.0-196 is to be installed Depends: libsip.so.9 but it is not installable E: Sorry, broken packages Where can I get a [preferably SuSE] sip-3.3.2 RPM? [WARNING: Rant Alert!] It's little things like this that keep tripping me up and, if I build my own packages from primary sources, then I'm stuck with continuing to maintain them as new sources are released. I've done this for years in similar ways on non-linux systems and have grown weary of it. Having a disto where everything is integrated for you is truly a huge benefit with all the packages that are available for linux. However, these perpetual little problems are like sand in my shoes and, after a while, my feet get sore (so to speak). Another example where multiple packages are interdependent but are not commonly available together in the needed revisions is Mozilla*/Galeon/Nautilus/???. Presently, Galeon bombs out when started even though all the dependencies are met (according to APT/RPM). I've encountered others, but am too tired to think of them at present. Oh yeah, why does SuSE ship Evolution -without- the gnome-pilot package(s)? Evolution is useless to me as a result and I'm not about to get into the Ximian dependency hell [again - I've been there before]. Sorry for the rant. This has been building up for awhile. I've been trying to get my system to a useable state for many -months- now and am still struggling. It just is hitting me how much time I've been spending in my attempts to get my system sorted out so I cat get some real work done and how far I still have to go! [sigh ...]. I'm still trying to sort how much of my problem is my attempted system/SW setup, how much is me and my [lack of] abilities, how much is SUSE and how much is simply the present state of Linux. sendmail problem

SuSE 8.0 professional (I am sure it is just a little thing that is missing) I have setup sendmail with yast, .... checked sendmail.cf and all files in /etc/mail, but so far I cannot send out any mails, which are using this smtp server. If I make the test telnet smtp.server 25 than I get a connection refused, even if I do this on the server itself. HOWEVER, if I use telnet 127.0.0.1 25 it works. Koncd & Panasonic LF-D201JD

SuSE 8.0 professional I have installed a DVD writer (SCSI Panasonic LF-D201JD) and tried to use koncd. I can read, but I cannot write (neither dvd nor cd). More Yast2 stuff

Yast1 Vs Yast2 Resize xterm in window without screen corruption: (ie. Running yast2 in gnome-terminal, if terminal is resized yast2 becomes unuseable due to poor curser implemetation and at times segfaults) yast1 = yes yast2 = no Change actual device node install CD is on: (ie. install was done from /dev/hdc, that CD drive removed, new SCSI CD drive installed, /dev/sr0, and linked to /dev/cdrom. Now yast2 will not see the CD drive and there is no way ive found to fix it) yast1 = yes yast2 = no Save Custom installation set for machine rollout: (ie. create a custom install set of only packages you wish to install and save it to a file, on re-importing into yast2, selected pakages are selected but unselected packages are not unselectedand need to be done manually) yast1 = yes yast2 = no Simple Navagation: (ie. being able to visually navigate menus via arrow keys, tabs) yast1 = yes yast2 = no Full discriptions of Pakages, including file list: (ie. alt-d in yast2 only gives you a 1 to 2 lines, where as yast1 gave you the FULL package description) yast1 = yes yast2 = no I could keep going im sure, but the bottom line here is that yast2 still seems to be in a beta/testing stage of development (surely these features havent been left out on purpose). Yast2 does have several good points, but without having a full working feature set equivalent to Yast1, Yast1 should not have been removed until yast2 leaves the development stage it still seems to be in. Ive been paying for FULL versions of SuSE since v6.2 due to SuSE's poor upgrade options for international users and I am bit dissapointed they they would make an M$ style move in forcing an unstable product onto its users without another option. Im hoping alot of this will be fixed with the new release. I agree that yast must move on and develop with linux and i feel that apart from the problems with yast2, SuSE 8.0 is the very best linux distro ive installed. But at this point i am unable to implement it on my servers until i have a stable and useable remote configuration tool. How to acquire 7.3 CDs

I am tired of lugging around my 7.3 CDs between home and work (my employer has really taken an interest in SuSE). Is it possible to purchase an additional set of version 7.3 Pro CDs/DVD?
