Evolution Problems

I'm having a heck of a time with Evolution. I installed it from the 7.3 CD and am trying to upgrade to the latest and greatest. It appears to be an endless loop. I don't want to use the Ximian desktop, I just want Evolution. The CD version seems to work ok, but I can't access any of the help files and I can't seem to compose email. When I try it says it "Could not create compose window." Any help here???? Preferably how to upgrade. Thanks, Tom

Could anyone please let me know the linux command for resetting the MBR ..XP will not accept FDISK /MBR and I need to reset it.... Regards Ted Wager...

[SLE] Mouse Wheel and SuSE 7.3

I have a Linux Box powered by SuSE Linux 7.3 which works great except for mouse wheel!! I tried Protocol "IMPS/2" in XF86Config-4 but my mouse goes mad :-( why ???? this pc with this mouse (Logitech M-S48a) works fine with Mandrake 8.1 and Xfree 4.1.0.... why not on my SuSE ? help please!! g.

Open Source in action

I was wondering if any of you have seen the article in eWeek about database comparisons. It is really a very fascinating article which challenges many concepts. The link is: http://www.eweek.com/article/0,3658,s=708&a=23115,00.asp In this benchmark comparison the two leading database were Oracle 9I and MySQL The other database tested were SQL Server, DB2 and ASE. I thought you all might be interested in how open source is progressing. Hopefully the folks who own MySQL will continue to keep it open source. Jim

Sax2 installation hiccup - anything to worry about?

"trying to do everything right", I've decided I should stop ignoring warnings and error messages :-) I have obtained (from ftp.suse.com) the latest XFree 4.2.0 stuff, and followed the easy installation-instructions *to the letter* (another first for me :-) ). Hello - Is there a way to run the Yast2 Online Update tool from the command line? A server we have in house isn't running X and we'd like to use YOU for updating packages instead of YaST1. Please advise. Thanks. - Greg Macek

Console log for linux

After update from SuSE 7.1 Prof to 7.3 Prof. with hardly any problems, I notice the following messages (twice repeated) in the Console log when booting up as 'root': linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1 linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-0 When booting up as 'user' these messages do not appear. My sound system works in both cases so why do I get error messages ? Sound Card ES1371 was automatically detected and configured with options start ALSA and start sequencer enabled. Disabling them did not alter the output messages. I cannot find an explanation as to what sound-slot-1 or sound-service-1-0 means, so don't have a clue! Roy

/etc/X11/susewm menu entries

I've been trying to understand the SuSE KDE menus better and I think I've got most of them figured out. I using SuSE 7.3 Pro. The default SuSE KDE global menus appear to be in /etc/opt/kde2/share/applnk/kde2/SuSE Any changes I make to the SuSE menu using the KDE menu editor are in ~/.kde2/share/applnk/SuSE But...what the heck are the entries in /etc/X11/susewm/AddEntrys/SuSE? They appear to be menu templates used to update the window manager menus when you add/remove application using YaST but there are multiple strange .desktop files in the subdirectories. Stuff like mozilla.desktop mozilla.-607.desktop Most of these have this inside: #SuSEwmSKIPthisFILE I'm missing something here and can't find anything in the books. Does anyone happen to know how this works?
