I sympathise, I had all sorts of problems with a Micro$oft Intellimouse with a wheel... I do admit I gave up and swapped with my Windoze box and now have a Packard Bell Optical Wheelmouse.. However, that too caused problems so I basically chopped things around and got a stable display - all bar the IMPS/2 bit. I then changed this on its own and blow me down it worked.. Not very scientific but.. Anyway, here is my /etc/XF86Config section which may help... Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "sw_cursor" Option "Name" "AutoDetected" Option "Protocol" "imps/2" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "on" Option "Emulate3Timeout" "50" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Good luck ! Pete
When I installed SuSE 7.2 the program installed a regular 3 button mouse. The wheel works as a center button but in most situations the wheel also works for scrolling. You might give it a try. Lloyd Becker pete atkinson wrote:

Hi, I have used the below configuration on 2 different wheel mice (Logitech Cordless & Mitsumi), & both with no error. Congradulations, you've chosen the best. :-)
which works great except for mouse wheel!! I tried
Add the line Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" to your input device / mouse section in /etc/X11/XF86Config -- When I said "we", officer, I was referring to myself, the four young ladies, and, of course, the goat.
I tried all your "XF86Config" w/o suxess :-(. Now I think about a "no hardware support" for my particular type of mice. But it works on MDK 8.1 !!! And I want to use SuSE !!! :-((((( thx all...

thx all... www.linux-knowledge-portal.org/en/ after this - hardware - (07.05.2001) Configuration of the X-Server with SaX or SaX2 - ok :) next step - sdb- search keyword - mice
Overview over different types of mice (28.05.2001) good luck :) dan
Ok lets try again, Can you tell us what this rodent has ? Is it a wheel mouse, USB ?, cordless (even tho' shouldn't make too much difference). What happens when you install it as a 2 or 3 button PS/2 as opposed to a IMPS/2 ? When I had my troubles with IMPS/2 if you were careful you could just about get the cursor to where you wanted it. Too quick and it flew back to the bottom left hand corner...... Let us know what you have and someone should be able to help !! Pete On Wednesday 27 February 2002 09:13, you wrote:

PS/2 Logitech wheel mouse (pilot+?) ... model M-S48a... OEM i think ... black logitech logo on it...

It works great with protocol "ps/2" (without wheel, of course) but it has exactly the behaviour you wrote with protocol "imps/2". What does that behaviour mean? thx g.
Hi I believe I have the same mouse, at least I can find the M-S48A from the bottom plastic.... I can scroll with it, no problem... I know that the ZAxisMapping is the parameter You need for scrolling. Settings for my mouse is: Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "InputFashion" "Mouse" Option "Name" "PILOT WHEEL MOUSE" Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2" Option "Vendor" "LOGITECH" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Jaska.
