I seem to have made problems for myself and have NO idea how or when I did so: pat@hayou:~> nslookup xx.yz *** Can't find server name for address 192.168.0.1: Non-existent host/domain *** Default servers are not available RoadRunner reports NO local outages or problems (that they see). ?? Reviving old system

I am trying to put SuSE 7.1 on an old Gateway2000 4DX2-50V (Phoenix BIOS) with a Western Digital Caviar AC21600 drive. This is physically a 3148/16/63 drive that the BIOS translates to 787/64/63 geometry. I have install SuSE Linux with a half dozen different configurations of LILO. Most get as far as LILO-, a few as far as L 40 40 40 ... The hard drive manual has a section on Unix installation. It says Unix doesn't agree with translating BIOSes. The instructions on how to turn off translation seem to have some typoes or missing pieces. All include geometry errors as possible causes. Anybody have any experience or ideas? TIA, Jeffrey

Hi: How do I print with samba, do I use smbspool? The printer is already shared at the win9x machine (it is a lexmark 2030), do I have to do something with YaST or edit /etc/printcap? Thanks, Raul

Clock app in Kicker

Sorry, my new HD started having errors, so I had to replace, which meant reinstall and reupgrade. I don't think it was like this before, but is there an AM/PM option for the clock app in kicker? KDE2.2.2, SuSE 7.3, 2.4.16. It is now in a 24 hr format, and though I have looked and looked, I find no place to change it. Hi, I am also running Lotus notes R5 Privat edition from wine (Suse Pro 7.3 on Windowmaker). The only problem I have is to stop wine after closing my Lotus Notes ... is this thing working correctly on your desktop? Oliver

Running smartups I get following information. I have no idea what I should change. It was said somewhere in the reading material that it would be a good idea to have this program run under an own name. But how can I change ownership of /dev/ttyS1? I found out that the ownership is right now root/uucp.
