PHP Question

Hello all, I have Apache, MySQL and PHP running and I tired to open the PHP test page using a web browser but it did not show anything but a blank page. How do you correctly configure PHP in SuSE 8.1? And also how do you test to see it is running correctly. According to the manual it says to use browser and type http://localhost/test.php Which directory do you put the PHP file? Thanks, Scott

grub floppy error

i have try installing 8.1 over and over and it wont install it now said GRUB floppy error i dont know know why it cant seem to write to floppy or why i can get lilo to install instead so can someone please tell me what i am doing wrong or what i need to do to get this to install thanks

Problems using oggenc

Hi, I'm having a really hard time trying to encode ogg files. Whenever I use oggenc the whole machine completely freezes. I have tried oggenc both as a user and root with the same results. If i do something like: oggenc -q 5 track5.wav -o track5.ogg , it starts off fine, but always freezes the machine after a couple of seconds. After rebooting the machine, I have noticed that the track5.ogg output file has never been created. I have tried using the rpms off the CD, the rpms from vorbis.com and the .tar.gz files from vorbis.com, but get the same result all the time. I have also tried using oggenc via other apps, eg: Grip, abcde, ripit etc, but the same thing happens every time. Incedentaly, the other ogg tools seem to work fine, eg ogginfo The really annoying thing is that I had this working fine a couple of weeks ago, but I reinstalled SuSE and now it won't work. I have even tried changing the acpi and apm options in grub, and also using the failsafe option in grub, but no change My system: SuSE 8.1 oggenc 1.0 (CD version) /dev/hda3 9.0G 4.0G 5.1G 45% / /dev/hdb1 38G 4.3G 33G 12% /data Duron 1200, 256 MB I can't find anything on google about complete system freezes from oggenc, so if someone has even the vaguest idea about what could be wrong, I'd be very grateful. VNC, KDM, Graphical Login

Hi, Anyone know what the /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/XServers file should look like to get the graphical login on the client? YAST2 foul-up RPM install?

Hello List, Today I d/led a new RPM for KSETIWatch 2.5.1 to replace 2.5.0. I found it in Konqi and clicked it; Konqi then went to its new RPM display of the RPM. Very Nice feature!. Now Konqi offers a "Install RPM via YAST" button. So I clicked it and YAST takes off and eventually asks for CD2 of the 8.1 install media, so I put it in and let YAST RPM Install finish. Now here is the error: Despite Konqi's correct display of the RPM and its files, clicking "Install RPM via YAST" caused YAST to install the OLDER KSETIWatch 2.5.0 RPM from the 8.1 install media!! I have used Konqi's "Install RPM via YAST before w/o error, but those were RPMs that appearantly were NOT on the 8.1 Install media. Is this a genuine bug or did I miss something? How too skip a step in during starting up.

Dear my friends, Now I find it takes too long time for my SuSEfirewall2 to starting up. Especially in this process : " Starting Firewall Initialization (phase 2 of 3) " This step takes 20 minute only too startup. Unbelievable....!!!! My question is : "Is it possible to skipped this process so we don't need to wait for such along time." Unable to create installation source

I installed SUSE 8.1. After the installation I could not mount CD or DVD. I solved this problem as described in http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/81_ide-scsi.html. Later on I wanted to install further packages. However, "Install or remove software" in YaST2 did not work, since the DVD pointed to the wrong device (Why?!). Then I went to "Change source of installation", deleted the DVD entry and wanted to create a new entry. However, YaST2 denied the creation of a new entry with Error Unable to create installation source from URL 'dvd:///'. Details: ERROR(Media:mount failed) Has anybody seen this before? How can I correctly configure the source of installation (manually or in YaST2)? thx Adrian

firewall blocks xntp system time maintenance

SuSE 8.1/cable internet access. I have xntpd running and cannot maintain system time thru SuSEfirewall2. I have: FW_ALLOW_INCOMING_HIGHPORTS_UDP="yes" and iptables -A input_ext -j ACCEPT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -p udp --sport ntp --dport ntp But, neither rule seems to allow ntp access thru the firewall. I know that the firewall is blocking because, if I stop the firewall, ntp will update the system time. # iptables -L | grep ntp DROP udp -- anywhere anywhere udp dpt:ntp ACCEPT udp -- anywhere anywhere state NEW,RELATED,ESTABLISHED udp spt:ntp dpts:1024:65535 DROP udp -- anywhere anywhere udp dpt:ntp DROP udp -- anywhere anywhere udp dpt:ntp ACCEPT udp -- anywhere anywhere state NEW,RELATED,ESTABLISHED udp spt:ntp dpts:1024:65535 DROP udp -- anywhere anywhere udp dpt:ntp ACCEPT udp -- anywhere anywhere state NEW,RELATED,ESTABLISHED udp spt:ntp dpts:1024:65535 Also, SuSE 7.3 gave me firewall logs, /var/log/firewall, but SuSE 8.1 does not.
