I can't hide hidden files in Konq

This is really starting to bug me. Every time I open Konq my hidden files are shown. I keep unchecking "Show Hidden Files." I save the View Profile and close the window. Nothing works. Anyone got some ideas? Tom --- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems, Inc. 805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

System Registry? Linux don't have that flaw as far as I know. :-) Anyway, look in the home directory of the user you used to install OpenOffice with. There should be a file .sversionrc Or just search your while system for that file. This file indicates which OpenOffice or StarOffice is installed and where for that user. Delete this file or remove the invalid lines from it. CDRW detection question - SuSE 8.1

Hello! In order to install SuSE 8.1 on my desktop at home I had to add the line "hdd=cdrom", because my Acer 4x8x32 IDE CDRW would hang the installation. Once successfully installed, I go into the hardware browser utility in KDE and try to configure the CDRW drive. For some reason the system sees it twice, as a 4x8x32 CD-ROM and again as a 4x8x32 CDRW! How can I remove the entry for 4x8x32 CD-ROM, while keeping that of the CDRW? I already have a dedicated CD-ROM and it works fine... Thanks, MJR

RE: MPlayer Hair Pulling Fiasco SOLVED

I hate to start a new thread, but I don't have the old emails to reply to. Thank you everyone that replied to my trying to play encrypted DVD's. I tried the suggestion of compiling MPlayer, that worked in getting win32 codecs (bonus) but I still got the errors for the DVD's. Then I found this out: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/~alex/mwn/20021201.txt At the bottom of the page, right before #11 it talks about the problem I was having with them not playing. So I then decided to try ogle like someone else said. Yet suspiciously, it crashed upon loading everytime! It's worked before in the past, so I'm not really quite sure...didn't take the time to investigate. I then tried xine. Compiled from source, and then got the "enhanced" dvd plugin from a link on their site. Works like a charm now, and I couldn't be happier. Now I will put SuSE on my laptop, since there is nothing it can't do that Windows can.

linux install problem

non-graphical login question

Hello, Slightly lamer question, though I have searched the archives before posting... Running SuSE 8.1 -- have the login screen set to non-graphical, but how do I get rid of the crazy SuSE "bitmap" background? SuSE 8.1 boot disk hangs

Hello all, I have a system which has been running SuSE 8.0 and would like to install 8.1. I have to install via the network, so I am trying to boot a system via the boot disks provided in SuSE 8.1. The system hangs at the point where the IDE subsystem is initialized. The last thing I see is: [...] VP_IDE: chipset revision 6 VP_IDE: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later VP_IDE: VIA vt82c686b (rev 40) IDE UDMA100 controller on pci:00:07.1 VP_IDE: ATA-66/100 forced bit set (WARNING)!! ide0: BM-DMA at 0xc000-0xc007, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:pio ide1: BM-DMA at 0xc008-0xc00f, BIOS settings: hdc:pio, hdd:pio Is this a known issue and is there a work-around?

Am I going blind? am I blind all ready

Permission denied with ssh

Connecting to my main pc I got: praise@xearo7:~> ssh main praise@main's password: Permission denied, please try again. praise@main's password: Permission denied, please try again. Connecting to other hosts on the internet and on my home lan is ok and I have no problem. Connecting to my main pc to other hosts in the same lan is ok and I have no problem. Moreover, it was working a week ago. What could cause this strange problem? Anybody has anything to suggest to solve it? I really have no idea! Thanks, Praise

Adding Cups printer to NT

Using SuSE 8.0 on a small network I have successfully installed a Lexmark Optra R+ laser to LPT1 and can print from various linux applications OK. I have Samba 2.2.3a installed and can mount NTshares on the linux machines. I have use the add printer wizard and installed the Cups printer on the NTbox with appropriate drivers. Selecting properties to print a test page I get a rejection "access is denied" or a message unable to start print job. Any advice to resolve this would be appreciated.
