Combined power supply?

Hello SuSE folkz, I've assembled a new dual AMD SuSE8.1 Linux DB and web server. It has to work reliably 24X7. Unfortunately, its 460W Extended ATX PS has not enough fan out current to power motherboard, 20 fans and 16 SCSI hard drives at once. Is it possible to add another regular ATX 400W PS to power just hard drives on this system? I can ground both PS housings together with an additional wire. Or I stack to buy a new dual redundant PS? Could somebody please give me a practical advise on this matter. Many thanks in advance. Alex -- Microsoft Windows users should be covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act!!! printing problems under Mozilla

SuSE 8.1 hardware setup not happy

G'day ladies 'n' gents. I have SuSE 8.1 installed on my hard disk, and I can run it well enough to be writing this message in KMail, so that means I'm past the point where SuSE Support would be willing to help. :-) My machine is a random collection of totally obscure parts that nobody has ever heard of, so I suppose it's no wonder that things don't work. - Athlon 1.1 - 512MB - IBM 40G hard disk x2 - Plextor PlexWriter CD-R/W - Pioneer 116 DVD - ATI Rage 128Pro video - on-motherboard-AC97 sound - Microsoft Sidewinder Precision2 USB joystick For the first time ever, YaST actually thought I might be able to use 3D video (i.e., selection not grayed out) ... so I said 'Yes'. I ran Tuxracer once, which gave me an interface that looked like the intro-screen for a DVD movie, and it was full-screen. The joystick was not available, so I had to use mouse steering. After killing the little guy, I tried to exit. System frozen. Keyboard input not accepted. Screen goes black and I can't get to consoles. Hard reboot and login my alternate user. This time, Tuxracer is in a small window, and the game-space looks like it was designed in 1991. This time, I kill the little herring-sucker in a lava-pit. The system freezes again, with no keyboard response. Where should I begin looking for the trouble -- or is my hardware too obscure and weird to be properly supported? /kevin

Trying to access HP printer on Win98

My HP printer is hooked up to my wife's Win98 laptop (it's her company's printer). We both connect to a switch which allows us to get to the Internet. I've setup Samba so that I can transfer files to and from my computer...basically so that I can print. I shared her printer and I used YAST2 to find the printer on her computer, named HP, which I can connect to identifing it as a Samba/Windows printer. It's configured in YAST2 but I can't print to it. I run TEST in YAST2 and I get an error saying "lpr: unable to print file: server-error-not-accepting-jobs." What am I missing if I can connect to her printer? Any thoughts would be great. Does anyone provide experimental auto{conf|make} like Mantel does kernels?

Do any of the suse-people have "experimental" or non-official packages for things like automake & autoconf, similar to the way Mantel has kernel packages, and aj has gcc packages? Bootable CD for installation

I have a SuSE 8.1 image as a tarball. Right now I have a floppy from the cluclo project that I boot, it mounts /lib, /bin etc. off our main server and then partitions, formats, mounts and restores on the target machine. I would like to make a CD-ROM that I can boot so I don't need to mount the dirs from the main server. I have a minimum install of the OS set to boot at init level 1. I can burn this to CD but I am struggling with the boot concept. How to I make the CD boot and run the OS on the CD? I have tried using the b option to mkisofs with a boot disk image from the installation CD, but that image insists on inserting a modules floppy. I am glad to RTFM if some kind sole will point me in the right direction. I am obviously missing some core concept in the boot process. -- Greg Engel

post upgrade install problem

Hi again, Earlier today I used YOU to update a few bits and pieces, including bits of itself. When I try to connect to my FTP server to install some new software the process fails. T 192.168.254.150:21 -> 192.168.254.159:33756 [AP] 220 ottaky FTP server (Version wu-2.4.2-academ[BETA-18](1) Thu Sep 20 04:33:11 GMT 2001) ready... ## T 192.168.254.159:33756 -> 192.168.254.150:21 [AP] USER ottaky.. ## T 192.168.254.150:21 -> 192.168.254.159:33756 [AP] 331 Password required for ottaky... # T 192.168.254.159:33756 -> 192.168.254.150:21 [AP] PASS PASSWORD.. # T 192.168.254.150:21 -> 192.168.254.159:33756 [AP] 530 Login incorrect... .. because it's sending a literal "PASSWORD" as my ftp password. if I delete that installation source, and add all the correct details I can see YaST make the FTP connection and get some kind of package summary using the correct username and password .. when that finishes it adds the source details to the list of installation sources, but it changes my paswword into "PASSWORD". Is there somewhere I can change this woithout going through YaST? This is on 8.1 BTW Cheers! sjb

System HANGS at login screen HELP

Hello List, I have been making changes to X with SAX2 and after setting resolution and 3D for NVIDIA Geforce2 MX400 the system boots to LILO menu and when you make your selection "Linux" or "Boot Installed System" it boots all the way to the grey X login screem BUT the mouse and KB are hung or frozen. I know how to boot to the "Rescue System" option, but what do i do next? Can I invoke anything that will let me re-run SAX2? Is there a LILO parameter that I can add at boot time that will take me to a text console of the hosed system, NOT the test console of the "Rescue Sys"?
