email not working

cdparanoia on ide-scsi?

I just got myself a new CD-writer. I've never tried this before, but wanting to compare it's audio-extraction capabilities with my cd-rom's I tried with cd-paranoia, but no luck. apt-get upgrade 8.0 to 8.1

Hello Suse apt-get experts, Richard, are you there? Tried several times, unsuccessfully to upgrade from 8.0 to 8.1. First I downloaded all of the base files (only the base files) from the 8.1 apt repository, 10 or 15 per night until I had them all. (56k modem) Have been watching the list carefully to see what others have been encountering and modified the preferences file for libvorbis and libpng. Then I did the apt-get upgrade command. Got a list of messages about glibc-2.2-5 conflicts. So then I tried to "hold" the glibc file with the following command: # apt-get -o RPM::Hold::="glibc-2-2.5_161" upgrade I got the same error messages again plus a few more. EMERGENCY-my hd does no more boot

Oh god, these Toshiba 10 GB drives really suck! Remember my long thread in April this year? I sent in the old drive and got the same back. GUESS WHAT HAPPENED???? I got the same type as new drive back. AND TODAY IT DIED AS WELL!!!! I cannot reboot (Linux says unrecoverable error) and hangs, I cannot even mount my windoze partition when I boot from CD. So what can I do now? I need my data on FAT32 partiotion back. (I have been SUCCESFULLY evacuating my Linux partitions the last couple of hours) ANY IDEAS WELCOME AND APPRECIATED! And: Has anyone reading this encountered problems with Toshiba Notebook harddrives as well? Best regards, writing this online at a friends place, off now I leave to try out more things... Playing CDs

I have a system (SuSE 8.1) that cannot play audio CDs. The problem seems to lie either in the drives (both of them!) or the sound card, because replacing the cable had no effect. In Windows, I can play audio CDs using Media Player (although not using CD player) so I assume that the direct audio output isn't working. However, is there a Linux app that can do what MediaPlayer does and read the audio data of the disc and play it? I use a modem connection, which usually lasts few minutes, and of course, on different IP numbers each time. However, these days I'm observing an unusual number of failed attempts to enter my PC (what for, I wonder?). Usually they go to port 137 (Netbios), some to ident, but recently I'm seeing attempts to port 5327 from different hosts. What the h**k is port 5327 used for? It is not listed in /etc/services. Usually, the firewall reject them, but you can see in the log below it accepted some packets (although there was no response, according to iptraf), and that worries me a little. Why some times the firewall accepts them, and some times reject them? modules_MAKEDEV?

Hi all, Where I should put modules to be load at the boot time? In "/etc/modules.conf" ? If so, how should put it? For example, I have "sr_mod" enabled(M) in the kernel, and want to put it in "modules.conf", what should I do? Just enter "sr_mod" in a line, or I should add some more command. To me this "modules.conf" is very confusing , since in Gentoo all I need to do was to enter the name of a module in " modules.autoload" . By the way, I can't find "MAKEDEV" command. Do you use the command at all?
