Thanks, For anyone else who cares, I only found the individual patch files at kernel.org. http://kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/andrea/patches/v2.4/ At the suse site, ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/andrea/kernel.org/kernels/v2.4/ I found a single compressed file that contained all the AA patches for the kernel. Then I used "patch -p1 < patchfile" to apply them to a vanilla 2.4.20 kernel. That is much cleaner than what I was afraid I would have to do based on the kernel.org site. How do I get a AA kernel?

Guys, Is there a simple way to get a -aa kernel source tree??? == Why I want it: I have found the SuSE kernels fairly stable. I have tried a vanilla 2.4.20 kernel, but it locks up regularly on my test server. Apparently I have non-standard hardware. Since, I don't know of a SuSE 2.4.20 kernel yet, I want to try a 2.4.20-aa kernel. I found http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/andrea/kernels/v2.4/2.4.20rc2… but it looks like I would have to download 100 - 200 patches and apply them. I found a tool for automating the actual patch application, but just the download process seems overly difficult. There must be a simpler way to get a -aa kernel source tree??? AbiWord/gFTP updates

Well, I took a break from trying to beat Mozilla 1.2.x into submission (suffice to say it's a right PITA compared to 1.1) So, I've put the new versions of AbiWord (1.1.2) and gFTP (2.0.14) on www.usr-local-bin.org today. Joysticks in Linux

In previous SuSE installations, my joystick was always a Logitech Wingman Digital model, connected to the game port on my sound card or motherboard. Usually, it would be found by YaST, and I was able to calibrate it in X. But it never worked in games. If I tried to run a flight-sim, the game never saw the joystick, so I just gave up on games (since flight-sims are really the only ones that interested me). Oh well. More recently, I gave away the Logitech and bought a USB-connected Microsoft joystick. That one doesn't even seem to be detected. I get messages during boot that suggest that the USB base devices are detected and the USB drivers started, but no hint that anything connected is found. Since the joystick is my only USB equipment, I'm not sure what to make of the situation. Are other people successfully using USB-connected joysticks/game controllers in general, and maybe the Microsoft device in particular?? In SuSE 8.1? Should it matter if I am using KDE or GNOME or other, as my desktop? Docs that I've read have all spoken about joysticks as being covered under the umbrella of the sound system -- but that might be because they've historically beem connected via gameports that generally lived on sound cards. If the joystick is USB, does that still apply? /kevin

Printing Problems - SAMBA, CUPS and YaST2

Hello, everyone. I am almost to the end of transferring everything from my old server to my new one, but am having a great deal of difficulty getting Samba to allow my Windows 2000 clients to print. Firstly, the old server is a SuSE 7.3 Pro box, the new one is SuSE 8.1 Pro. With the old server I had no problems running a laser printer off lp0, and an inkjet of usb0, all set up with YaST1 and lpr. Since then, I have a new inkjet (HP DJ960C) and got rid of the laser printer. All I need to do is hook the inkjet up to lp0, and share it out through Samba to my W2K machines. Using YaST2, I have set up the printer on lp0 using CUPS. It was auto-detected, and four queues were set up; greyscale, colour, hi-res colour and photo. Each of these queues works just fine for local printing. Each of these queues show up when I browse the server from my W2K boxes, and I am able to map my printers to them. However, when I open the printer, I see the following error in the title bar: Access denied, unable to connect Also, I have yet to find where to set up a raw queue in YaST2 which is the one I'll want to use as my share, as the print jobs will be processed using the local driver on the W2K machines, and then sent to the queue on the server for printing. I have been trying to work this out for two weeks, and have finally had to hook the printer back up to my W2K laptop just to be able to print something out. Does anyone have any ideas how to get this working ? Thanks, Stuart.

Who has experience with video editing under (suse) linux?

about twice a year, a local choral group puts on a show, and for the past several years, I've videotaped the presentation and "edited" it to produce a "vanity video" for the cast members. I've been using Premeire under win98se, but I'd like to move to linux (if for no other reason than to avoid file size limitations -- right now, anything over 2gb reports as a negative byte count, and there is a hard limit of 4gb/file.) I've tried using broadcast2000, but I couldn't get ANYTHING to "work" -- the interface would come up, the dialogs would let me specify stuff, but I didn't get any indication that what I chose had any effect -- I certainly couldn't get so much as a playback of a loaded clip. 4gb is roughly 18 minutes of video -- I have 8 hours of tapes to capture, edit, and produce [no, the concert wasn't 8 hours long -- I had 4 cameras set up -- the concert is actually about 2 hours with an intermission] Ideally, I'd like to capture an "entire tape" to a file, then pick-and-choose segments from each file; of course, this depends a bit on the underlying ability of the video editing program... I also have a couple of 80gb hard drives set aside simply for capture & work [output] so these can easily be reformatted from fat to ??? [which would be most appropriate for large files? SuSe defaults to reiser, but that is more suited for "lots of small files" -- reiser4 may be a possibility, but that won't be released until the end of the month (then who knows how long till SuSE gets it into their product...)] So, the questions I need answered are: 1) what do folks recommend for video editing in the first place 1a) what do folks recommend for the "audio" portion, if done seperately 2) what file system should be used to store the video 3) what do I need to install or enable to get firewire working (will this require a kernel compile? I'm using a "stock" kernel at the moment)
