DMA mode failing on a drive

I do think that CHS=39870/16/63 could be at fault as it looks kind of strange. Of course I'd love to enable IDE on this box, any ideas on a fix? I am using grub. Hallo Buddy, I still have not succeeded to configure talk. I have one NIS server in my LAN. Every linux machine will log in into the NIS Server except mine. This what I have done to my machines : 1. completed a proper "/etc/hosts" file. I registered all of the machines in my LAN in there. 2. install talk and talk-server. 3. uncommented this lines in the "/etc/inetd.conf": talk dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.talkd ntalk dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.talkd 4. Activated "inetd". I tested my talk with this way : I used 2 machines to test this talk program. One machine named "scrtry" and another is "psubroto". the scrtry is running NIS-Client and logged into NIS server . psubroto is also running NIS-client but only logged in locally (into psubroto local machine). I tried this command : " talk jlampert@scrtry " but I got only this error message : " No connection yet ---[Error on read from talk daemon : connection refused. Press any key.....]--- " And than I got another display of talk program : " [Checking for invitation of caller's machine] " If I tried from scrtry to psubroto like this "talk prabu@psubroto (non NIS account) than I found this error message : " No connection yet ---[Error on read from talk daemon : connection refused. purpose of glibc-2.2.5-163.i686.rpm

As I was surfing through a FTP mirror of SuSE, I came across a file by the name of: glibc-2.2.5-163.i686.rpm The normal installation of SuSE 8.1 glibc compiled for i586, and it is under the i586 dir, not the i686 dir (obviously). I also noticed this file is on the SuSE CDs. So... what is it for? Having an i686 class CPU, should I install it? I'm expecting a speedup. Hi, what program (at server) should I use to allow clients access using web-browser? Is there any PHP/Java program available for that purpose? Anyone put one of these Internal ATAPI Interface units in their system yet? It both reads, writes and rewrites cd's and dvd's according to the maker at reasonable rates and at a decent cost. thanks scsijon

official modules for hpt 372

Hi, on hpt's site - www.highpoint-tech.com - i found hpt 372 integrated circuit driver for suse. i downloaded the file and when unzipped i had 3 floppy images for last 3 suse distro and 3 directories as well. I haven't understood what i should do with the directory of my suse version and i can't understand how i can install suse 8.0 from dvd after booting with a bootable floppy having hpt 372 modules and again how i can transfer hpt modules onto installed system. Please help me. thank you! Blackimp
