How can I get work XDM with PAM in SuSE 7.1 and SuSE XFree86 4.1.0 ?

The system works fine in text screen (login uses PAM correctly), but "xdm" with a similar or the same config file doesn't call PAM. (config at /etc/pam.d/xdm) It doesn't use any /lib/security/lib_$$$.so it only calls "getpwd()". Also never prints "error not found" when a inexistent /lib/security/lib_%%.so is set as required. Hi, I'm trying to make a linux(SuSE) firewall/router/gateway for my for my wife's WinME box and my SuSE box. I've scanned the SuSE manual, "Linux Networking: Clearly Explained" and "Linux Network Servers". After all that I'm still was what still in the dark. So I've got my firewall/gateway/router box. with External eth0 24.x.x.x(IP), 24.x.x.1(gateway), crxxxx-a.slnt1.on.wave.home.com(Domain) Internal eth1 192.x.x.1(IP), 192.168.100.7(gateway), geeko-gate.crxxxx-a.slnt1.on.wave.home.com(Domain) My Box 192.x.x.2(IP), 192.168.100.7(gateway), geeko-deville.crxxxx-a.slnt1.on.wave.home.com(Domain) My Wife's Box 192.x.x.3(IP), 192.168.100.7(gateway), geeko-babe.crxxxx-a.slnt1.on.wave.home.com(Domain) Well that is the present setup. However I seem to be missing something, because this neither geeko-deville nor geeko-babe can get to the outside work. I did an ifconfig and the two nics seem to be working fine as far as I can tell. So if you have and bright ideas as to where to go next please let me know. Thanks.

KNode has no @#*%^! backup!

I had been working on a usenet message for about 20 hours. I was trying to reply to a question about ancient Germanic tribes living in the south of France during the rise of Charles Martel. I had been saving the message to draft with the reasonable expectation that it would be backed up. I opened the file to edit and while it was opened the power went out. The file is no longer in drafts, and KNode has no backup that I know of. I have two questions in this regard: 1) Is there a way to fish this file out of some kind of temp file generated by KNode? 2) Is there a tool which is as easy to use as KNode and which will backup my currently open files? Hello all, I ran into a problem. It's called "Lil". Anyway, I booted my system witht the CD and restored my lilo on a floppy disc, but it is booting into run level 3, how would I change this to run level 5 instead? Thanks David M. -------------------

How close is SuSE 7.2 to LSB?

Just got round to reading deps nice article on Linuxplanet (cannot believe he tried that GCC/glibc upgrade...Tried that once and it failed to compile and I did something else instead, glad I did that!) I remember hearing awhile ago how close 7.0 or 7.1 was to the LSB, is there going to be another comparison soon? If dep is on the list still, did you try checking out the portal.suse.com site? I have found it occaisonly useful. But "why" were this problems happening? Recently when I tried the tarball install it went well until I specified alsa and a couple of others (I believe one was glx, but with an Nvidia card it may have been looking for the wrong GLX). Videolan, for me, works far better than Xine. Being on the Creatures Beta they seem to have no problems, I could ask them, but it seems very much like that games at least have settled on the /usr/local/games as a directory to install to. [SLE] Gnome 1.4 ate my KDE2

I upgraded Gnome on my system to 1.4, and at the end of the process, it asked if I wanted to use gdm or my usual window manager. I chose the latter, although I wasn't using kdm or xdm or anything, just running startx from the command line. And then I discovered that all I could get was kde plain! Worse, when I try to change my windowmanager with YAST, it tells me it can't find any windowmanagers. Any help? Where does YAST ordinarily identify window managers? How can I get KDE2 back?
