Apple 15 inch studio display

Hi, Everybody! Has anyone tried using an Apple 15 inch studio display with USB connection? My current Mitsubishi CRT is dying, and I am looking to upgrade to a flat panel display. I really like the Apple TFT's, but I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with these before I open my wallet. According to the SuSE hardware database, this monitor is supported. I am currently running SuSE 7.1, kernel 2.2.18. Any info or advice would be much appreciated. TIA Kevin

SuSE 7.2 and tftpd

I've newly installed SuSE 7.2 Professional using the default installation. I want to setup the tftp server for a limited test with a computer. I enabled the software in /etc/inetd.conf as follows: tftp dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.tftpd -s /tftpboot However, the /usr/bin/in.tftpd executable is missing in /usr/bin. Reading /usr/share/doc/packages/tcpd indicates this is all I have to do. Do I have to install in.tftpd from another network rpm. And if so, how would I locate it? I'm assuming something is being overlooked. Any ideas? John Kutil

anti aliased fonts in KDE

Hi all, I've just got anti aliased fonts working in KDE and it does look sweet. However when I bring up the Kontrol panel "look and feel" -> "Fonts", there are no fonts listed in the dialog dox ( even though I can choose size and style ). I am using KDE from CVS, but I've also tried with the KDE 2.1 rpms from SuSE. I do seem to have truetype fonts ( using xlsfonts lists a number of fonts picked up from the truetype directory ). Any help gratefully accepted, CP Hennessy

libXmuu.so.1

I did a clean install of 7.2 last night, and it seemed to go pretty well. However, when I started KDE, it was VERY slow. I tried renaming .kde2 and restarting KDE, but it didn't help. Any other ideas about why it would be so slow? When I ran "switch2nvidia_glx" and then tried to run "gears", it wouldn't run - it said something about Open GL and display 0:0 .....? I never saw this w/ 7.1. I then installed Xfree86 4.1 (rpms from SuSE), installed the latest nvidia drivers (1.0) and ran sax2. This worked as long as I chose the nvidia driver (and not the nv driver). Which is the SuSE driver, and which is the driver from nvidia? In any case, X will not start. I get messages saying that it can't find libXmuu.so.1. Isn't this one of the shared libraries which would be in the xshared.rpm? If it's missing, where can I get it? While installing the new X, I noticed a number of error messages related to not being able to delete certain files (I think they were font files) because they didn't exist. I didn't think it would be a problem if it was only trying to replace font files which didn't exist. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Hi Landy! Why don't you try kppp from KDE - it works in gnome, and other window managers. You just need to set it up with your ISP data, then if you use gnome, open the 'run' box and type kppp - and it dials your account. I never have any trouble with kppp, I never tried gnome's dial-out app. so I can't give suggestions for that. ISDN dialin server

Hi, I'd like to configure a SuSE dialin server with to ISDN cards (4 B-channels). Does anybody know how to do this? At this moment I've configured the HiSax module to load using irq=10,12 and mem 0xe000,0xe400 and I think this is working. I've created also 4 devices (ippp0, 1, 2, 3) on the yast... Can you help me? Error compiling Ogle_gui

I'm trying to compile Ogle, but get this error compiling the ogle_gui: "configure: error: Could not find the gnomeConf.sh file that is generated by gnome-libs install" I can't find any gnomeConf.sh file on my system, even though Gnome is installed. CD-ROM Trouble

Dear All Anyone know what this might be about ?.... One of my SuSE 7.1 AMD-K6-2 machines has started to do some strange things in the CD-ROM department. When I try to mount it with either a terminal window or by clicking on the icon in KDE 2 I get the following error message...... [mntent]: warning: no final newline at the end of the /etc/fstab mount: /dev/cdrom: can't read superblock I'd really like to get some more hardware into the machine via the CD-ROM. Can't download it too much to download. I haven't edited the fstab file at all. Hi, I've installed SuSE 7.1 on an old pentium 100 with 32 MByte RAM. It is running fine except that TOp tells me that kapm-idled is munching away more than 50% of the CPU capacity. What is this kapm-idled doing, can I get rid of it and if so, how? Thanks Nico

Hello! I bought a 7.2 Pro upgrade package last week (tuesday) and choosed the UPS/DHL option (which is of course a bit more exepensive) because I have to install it as soon as possible. I read on the form it would take ~ 3-4 days to ship and it is now 8 days I'm waiting. I tried contacting SuSE to get some news of my request but nothing comes in.. For info, I'm in Belgium. I received a mail from SuSE asking me if I was okay to let them providing my informations to another organization which would do the shipping job... I'm getting bored of waiting (and blocked in my job because of that!) Ju.

Permission for UserDir on Apache

Hello All Im trying to get users webdir setup. This is what I've done created dir in users ~/home called public_html (this is the default from httpd.conf) chown -R USERNAME.nogroup ~USERNAME/public_html chmod -R 2777 ~USERNAME/public_html basically checked through the httpd.conf for allow,deny everything "looks" ok in /etc/inetd.conf I have http-rman Played with the /etc/hosts.allow .deny files currently in hosts.allow = http-rman:ALL hosts.deny does not have an entry, I stop and start apache... no joy! Im wondering if I need another entry in inetd.conf? The default webserver is running fine but If I try to hit a http://linux_server/~username I get forbidden you dont have permission... What setting am I missing to get this going? thanks rob

KDE2 7.1 update DCOP server fails? Broken bits?

I applied the latest updates of the KDE2 to my 7.1 and now I can't get past the splash screen on KDE2 startup. I keep getting a box popup which tells me it can't find "/home/hattons/.<something>_<hostname>_0:" . I don't recall the details, but it also says it can't find a running DCOP server. I had also updated the XF86 to the latest stuff on the FTP site, but I don't believe that's the problem since I'm able to run a KDE2 session from a remote client using the same XF86 installation. I suspect there is a problem with the latest QT bits. Am I alone in having this problem? I'll be getting 7.2 very soon, so this may not matter a lot for me, but it might be an indication of broken bits on the SuSE site. TIA, Steven

ext2 File System Errors Question

EXT2 FILE SYSTEM ERRORS Today for no apparent reason when I started SuSE 7.1 it got as far as "establishing interprocess communication" (this is in the early stages of KDE2 starting), then went to a blank desktop with nothing but a small square in the middle that said "Internet Tool." When I clicked it, it dialed and I presume connected to my ISP. Does anyone know what that is? Now to lead into my ext2 question, since all I had was a little square labeled "Internet Tool," I hit ctrl-alt-backspace, which took me back to KDM. I chose restart. When it restarted, the file system was sufficiently messed up that I had to run fsck manually. I saw several lines stating "unrecoverable error." I also had a bunch which said "short read - ignore?" to which I answered ignore. The system did come back up and seems to be working fine. My question is, should I be concerned about all those fsck "short reads" and especially the several times that fsck listed "unrecoverable error?" 7.2 problems

Ok, I have just gotten suse installed on an old p100 with 65 megs ram. over close to 24 hr from the cd's i know i had way too much stuff choosen to install. ok when it boots i boots into kdm an xwindows. I shut that down to a console an fire up yast an chose to just boot up to the console. well it does that but it boots up into the same small box that the installation was in. has anyone else had this problem an know what solves it. THis did not happen at home on my nice new duron 850 but then i did an update there. It would be nice if it would boot up to console an be full screen instead of being in that small box with the suse logo an the linux exspert accross the top. thanks jack
