I've got an HP pavilion laptop with the above chipset. When I try to run SaX2 or xf86cfg the screen goes blank and I have to reboot to get it back. I'm Xless. Anyone know the trick for this chipset? -- Mark Hounschell markh(a)compro.net

It is not up to me of course but if I was a Big Noise at KDE I would concentrate all efforts on 4 things, in this order: Kmail Konqueror Kword K..whatever it is called (spreadsheet)... the rest can wait.. I think M$ sees a window of opportunity to hook folks into the subscription model, by way of data trapping (I can't switch because all my data is in formats that can't be switched to other products), before KOffice and StarOffice become equal to or better than Office on most fronts. That point is probably with a year. I think many will be surprised to know how useful SO5.2 *already* is on the Linux OS, and KOffice is not far behind. Unscientific theories -Marxist dialectical history and Freudian psychology were Popper's favorites- are formed in such a way that they cannot be falsified by data.

Netscape 6

Easy one: How do you install Netscape from the pcplus CD? I tied going to /cdrom1/Linux/ns6/ns6.tar.gz and extricating it to a directory called /Netscape-installer then when I load Netscape-installer.sh then it says /Netscape-installer/Netscape-installer-bin file or directory not found. And when I download ns6 form Netscape a window pop's up and says: /Netscape-installer /Netscape-installer . Pit A.

Eazel desktop on SuSE?

Saw a post on linuxtoday.com and decided to take a look at it. They say they have .rpm's for RH, any chance this might work on SuSE 6.4 or 7.0? I thought about giving it a go tonight for drill, but wanted to post to the list and see if anyone else has tried. BTW, thanks a bunch for the responses about upgrading to the new kernel! I will definately wait. It's not a big deal for me to wait. Thanks again, Daniel

still having proftpd troubles:

I am hoping to get some resolve with this problem regarding ProFTP. The server seems to function properly in every respect, except that when I boot the system, I get a "failed" status at login for proftpd. I mentioned in a previous email the error that I was getting but here it is again: Starting ProFTP Server: myname.local-Fatal: Socket operation on non-socket myname.local - (Running from command line? Use 'ServerType standalone' in config file!) I noticed another error line that I missed last time: "exit status: /usr/sbin/proftpd: 1" Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this annoying problem?
