[SLE] Nameserver/ unable to locate host problem

Hi all, I recently installed Suse 6.4 and got ahold of a modem which connects me fine. I even got to a few urls alright. However, it now seems that I can't get anywere: even when I put in domain numbers. I get an 'network not reachable error' in Netscape, even when I'm trying to reach the nameserver from the dialup. I already tried SDB under Netscape for the 'unreachable domains' problem and then set the nameserver. I've set up my ISPs Primary and Secondary Nameservers in Yast, and can't think of anything else to try. I have masquarading/firewall set up, but have disabled the firewall parts until everything works properly. What have I forgotten to check? [SLE] KDE session problem

I had SuSE-6.3 running on my desktop for ages. It had the KDE-1.1.2 desktop which worked OK, except for a rather annoying bug. I always have an xosview running in the bottom corner, which is restored by the session management when I log back in. The thing is, sometimes, perhaps one time in five, the xosview either doesn't come back or it comes back in the wrong place. I lived with this for ages. When I got a laptop I put SuSE-6.4 on it, and this has never suffered the same problem. xosview always comes back just as I want. I figured it must be a bug which was fixed in 6.4, and when I upgraded my 6.3 box to 6.4 I expected the problem to go away. It didn't. [SLE] Ethernet Card + Modem...

Hi, Does anyone have experience configuring Linux to use a ethernet card at a times (say, at business) AND a modem at other times (at home)? Is it possible? Just a regular configuration, but w/ both in? [SLE] SuSE 7 Deluxe = Professional

To add to the confusion or perhaps to help relieve it: After looking up SuSE's German home page which explains in detail the contents of the new 7.0, my reading of this is the following: 1. The Professional version is what people here on the list have been referring to as "DeLuxe". It seems to be the same type of distribution that we have so far been getting, i.e., a 6-CD pack with lots of "stuff" (most of which I never actually used). 2. The Personal version is a scaled down one. The main differences seem to be: the professional version has KDE 2.0 (beta) whereas the personal version has still 1.1.2. This seems odd as I would have expected the professional version to go with a more tried and true system rather than the bleedign edge. Other stuff that the personal version does not include is: video conferencing software, LDAP server, server tools, auto installer, development tools, Java 2, beowulf clustering, and the know-how handbook. Indeed, probably most of this stuff is unnecessary for the casual home user. 3. The German web site also lists the new software that ends up in 7.0 compared to the 6.4 version. Unfortunately, it is not entirely clear which of the new packets make it into the Personal and the Professional versions. [SLE] Samba rc3.d problem

SMB service rc3.d/s91smb is not starting correct at boot time. Boot process gives me an error that it can't find init.d/rc3.d or something to the extent that it is not where should be. This is an error message I have been getting all along but didn't really care about until now that I realized its importence well trying to get SMB running correctly. Not that I know if this is importent in the sceme of getting SMB initialized, is that my network works fine and I can mount file systems from other locals. Where should I look to fix this? [SLE] Just installed SuSE 6.4 and have odd behavior.

Hi, I just installed SuSE 6.4 and the XFree 4.0 binaries on a new laptop. It was a pain in the ass to set up the video chip (neomagic). Finally, it worked. Now, when I try to login as root using KDM, I don't get KDE but twm. If I start X from the text console as root, I get KDE. What can I check to see why I'm not getting KDE as root?
