[SLE] KDE - too many colours

Is there a means of limiting the number of colours consumed by KDE? My video adapter only provides 256 colours at the required screen size; but there only seem to be about 10 colours left after KDE is up and running (as reported by 'xv'). That makes the Eagle CAD package unusable. Netscape is very ugly; with black instead of grey in the scroll-bars. How can I check where colours have been consumed? [SLE] firewall & forwarding an incoming socket to another IP

I have a web server behind a firewall that I would like to expose through my firewall. It is my understanding that it can be donw with ipmasqadm. My current firewall is a ipchains firewall. Can anyone enlight me to how I would forward a incoming request on port 80 to another internal machine? [SLE] Why cant I open any Apps??? =( HELP!

Hi! I just installed SuSE 6.4 on a BE6-II computer and everything went well in installation. BUT heres the problem, when I got into the internet via dial-up, I cannot open any applications. Netscape or any other application would not load UNTIL I disconnect. Has anyone gotten this weird problem? Can someone help? Thanks in Advance! [SLE] Apach & php upgrade

I downloaded the apache, mod_php and mod_perl rpms from the suse web site (ones for 6.4) and installed them on a system running 6.3. Everything works but the apache startup script in /sbin/init.d. I get a failed message about loading /usr/lib/apache/libphp3.so. The libphp3 file is there and I can start apache by simply issuing /usr/sbin/httpd, but I would like to get the script to work. I have looked at it and commented out the line where it checks for modules but that only loads apache without php support. (as does /usr/sbin/httpd now that I check). [SLE] NN recompile under 6.4

Seeing that there was no quick solution to the problem of NN (not) running under SuSE 6.4 (it worked fine under 6.2), I decided to grab the latest sources I could find (labelled "6.5.6") and build it again. Now; it's been about 8 years since I last built nn, it was a bit of deja vu. But there were a few "funnies" encountered with the build under 6.4. 1) The linker failed when it was looking for libtermcap. I had one of them, but the linker failed to identify libtermcap.so.2* until I added a "libtermcap.so" symlink. Some sort of problem with 'ld' I guess. 2) The inews configuration called for a /var/spool/news/out.going/tmp to exist; posting failed until one was created with suitable permissions; chown news.news ; chmod ug+w,a+rx (keep the sticky group bit!) I'm using leafnode to fetch and post news. nn now works a treat. Minor problem with use on an xterm because the screen clears the final status message as the program exits. [SLE] Two problems

I have installed 6.3 on an older computer. I was haivng toruble with X. I managed at one point to configre it so tha the mouse worked properly, but something happened, I'm not sure what. I had to use xf86config because in sax the mouse just stayed at the top of the screen. With xf86config, it was ok, but now has reverted and xf86config doesnt work. What advice can you give me? It is a standard Microsoft 2 button mouse. The video card is in the database, and I put in the monitor frequencies from the manual. What about ChordMiddle versus Emulate 3 buttons? Secondly I put in another hard drive, which suse doesn't see at all. hi; I believe the Ensoniq 1370 & 1371 chipsets work perfectly with SuSE. I never had any trouble with the 1370. I didn't use alsaconf(which YaST2 uses) in 6.2 and 6.3, instead if you look in /etc/conf.modules you'll still see the kernel driver to use. Now I use YaST2 or alsaconf to set it up and it works perfect. Remember if you use alsaconf or YaST2, in the kernel configuration under Loadable Modules say no to: Set Version info for all symbols. Yes, the log files may say: "snd card out of range", but sound should still work. Sometimes a problem may be caused by other things.
